Thursday’s bargaining session between the NFL and the NFLPA abruptcy ended after the NFLPA proposed a 50-50 split between owners and players, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. The owners walked out.
Currently, the players get 59.6 cents of each dollar of ‘total football revenue,” a number that is roughly $1 billion less than all revenue generated by the sport. An offer to take 50 cents of every dollar represents a lower amount requested by the NFLPA. Apparently not enough to the NFL.
The NFL, who want a 18 percent reduction, have refused to open their financial books to justify their demand to cut the players’ share.
“We are not confirming, denying, or commenting on CBA meetings at this point,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told ProFootballTalk.com via e-mail. “We are focused on finding a way to get an agreement.”
