NFL veterans most impacted by the 2017 draft

NFL teams are always looking to get younger, and the early round picks can have a huge impact on the jobs of established veterans. The following slideshow features 20 NFL veterans impacted most by the draft.

It didn't take long for the Browns to move on from Barnidge after drafting David Njoku in the first round of the draft. Barnidge was cut before Day 2 began.

Mike Glennon, QB, Bears

Glennon is effectively on a one-year deal, and his hold on the quarterback job is shaky after the Bears traded up to take Mitchell Trubisky second overall. After coming over from Tampa Bay, Glennon could be on the move again next season.

David Amerson, CB, Raiders

Amerson could be fighting for snaps after the Raiders drafted Gareon Conley in the first round. Of course, a sexual assault allegation against Conley clouds the situation, but the Raiders seem confident Conley won't be charged.

Sammie Coates, WR, Steelers

Coates got off to a great start last season, but could now be on the roster bubble after Martavis Bryant was reinstated and JuJu Smith-Schuster was drafted in the second round.

Arizona brought back Dansby as a veteran presence at inside linebacker. He could struggle to find the field after the Cardinals drafted Haason Reddick in the first round.

Tyler Higbee, TE, Rams

Drafted in the fourth round last season, Rams was slated to be the Rams starter until Gerald Everett was drafted in the second round. The two youngsters will battle for the starting job.

Jeremy Hill, RB, Bengals

Hill has fallen out of favor in Cincinnati over the last two seasons, with sub-4.0 yards per carry. He now has major competition from controversial second-round pick Joe Mixon.

Cody Kessler, QB, Browns

If there was any thought that the Browns were sold on Kessler as their long-term quarterback after his rookie season, it's gone with the drafting of second-round pick DeShone Kizer. Kizer isn't ready yet, but could step in late in 2017 or the start of 2018.

Brandon LaFell, WR, Bengals

LaFell served as Cincinnati's No. 2 wideout last season, but he's likely to lose snaps after the team selected John Ross in the first round. He was already in a competition with Cody Core and Tyler Boyd for snaps.

Mark Ingram, RB, Saints

Ingram's stock was already down following the signing of Adrian Peterson. Now he must contend with third-round pick Alvin Kamara, who might handle third downs immediately.

Chris Ivory, RB, Jaguars

Signed by Jacksonville last offseason, Ivory was a free agent bust in his first year with the team. He should see limited snaps this season after the Jaguars selected Leonard Fournette.

Latavius Murray, RB, Vikings

Murray signed from Oakland to take over for Adrian Peterson. After the Vikings drafted Dalvin Cook in the second round, Murray's status as the starter is very much in doubt.

Cam Newton, QB, Panthers

Newton is coming off a sub-par season and offseason shoulder surgery. The Panthers have added some much-needed support in running back Christian McCaffrey, and could transition to a more balanced, less Cam-does-it-all offense as a result. Newton also gets another toy with wide receiver Chris Samuel in the second round.

Tom Savage, QB, Texans

Savage is still penciled in as the starting quarterback in Houston, but his hold on the job is much less solid after the Texans drafted Deshaun Watson in the first round. It wouldn't be shocking if Watson wins the job in the preseason.

Alex Smith, QB, Chiefs

Smith is solidified as KC's starting quarterback in 2017. As for post-2017, we'll see. The Chiefs traded up to acquire Texas Tech gunslinger Patrick Mahomes II, investing two first round picks and third rounder. Smith is due a huge pay raise in 2018.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers

Stewart has had trouble staying healthy during his career. His chances increase now that he's set to lose touches to first-round draft pick Christian McCaffrey.

Will Tye, TE, Giants

The Giants needed more explosion at tight end after Tye averaged only 8.2 yards per reception last season. Evan Engram likely replaces him immediately after averaging more than 16 yards per reception at Ole Miss.

Spencer Ware, RB, Chiefs

Ware did a fine job as KC's starting running back last season, but he now gets some competition from former Toledo running back Kareem Hunt.

Tyrell Williams, WR, Chargers

Williams is coming off a breakout season, but could lose snaps in 2017 after the Chargers drafted Mike Williams (Clemson) in the first round. They also have Keenan Allen returning from a torn ACL.

T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jaguars

The 36th overall pick in the draft just two years ago, Yeldon will now play second fiddle to Leonard Fournette. The move isn't shocking after Yeldon averaged only 3.6 yards per carry last season.
