Six weeks into the NFL season, and the 49ers’ bandwagon has started to creak under the weight of more believers.  At 5-1, San Francisco is the league’s biggest surprise. Not only have the Niners knocked off the Lions, Eagles and Bengals on the road, but they’ve already built a big lead in the weak NFC West and appear to be almost a lock to make the playoffs as they come off their bye week and get ready to play the Browns at Candlestick Park Sunday. In this week’s Sports Illustrated power rankings by Don Banks, the 49ers are now ranked No. 4 in the NFL, behind the Packers (7-0), Patriots (5-1) and Saints (5-2). Meanwhile, one NFL analyst says there’s an explanation for the team’s turnaround under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh and his new coaching staff. In his Cold Hard Football Facts column for Sports Illustrated, Kerry J. Byrne says, “No coach has his team playing smarter or more efficiently than Harbaugh.” In his column, Byrne measures offensive efficiency t...

Browns-49ers Preview

After much back and forth wide receiver Braylon Edwards  is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Browns and it is anybody’s guess if the wideout will play against his former team.  Through week 6 three out of the five players listed as questionable were active on Sunday yet only one played WR Michael Crabtree week 3.  49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Edwards...

'Lord Fangio' rules over 49ers' improved defense

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. AP Photos planned.) By ANTONIO GONZALEZ AP Sports Writer Vic Fangio might be the only one who doesn't mind the piercing tone of his ''maniacal'' voice. The San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator will often leave messages on his voicemail at the office just before falling asleep or if he wakes up in the middle of the night...

Report: Stephen Ross has reached out to Bill Cowher’s agent

Tony Sparano is still the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. That didn’t stop owner Stephen Ross from meeting with Jim Harbaugh about the job before Harbaugh signed on with the 49ers and it isn’t stopping him from trying to talk to another possible replacement. Albert Breer of the NFL Network is reporting that Ross…
