For the Oakland Raiders it’s “meet the new boss, same as the old boss.” Hey, we cribbed Simon and Garfunkel in the headline, why not CC The Who right now? When Mark Davis inherited his Raiders team from his late father Al Davis, there was belief that things would change in the Black Hole. However, ownership is still cray. Their latest move was interesting one; let’s see if it pays off for them. Sports Illustrated ran a very critical story on the Oakland Raiders recently. It highlighted last year’s 4-12 debacle, and just how terrible the team has been the last couple decades. So what do the Raiders higher-ups do? Fire the PR guy of course! Sure, that will solve all your problems! And the answer was so simple: right in front of us the whole time! The Raiders fired PR director Zak Gilbert Saturday. SF Gate writes: The Raiders fired P.R. Director Zak Gilbert Saturday. Gilbert had been on the job for one year, and was fired by Raiders owner Mark Davis after he had been brought in by general manager Reggie McKenzie, who had worked with Gilbert in Green Bay. Team sources say Davis was unhappy with a Sports Illustrated story that was published in April looking back on the team’s 4-12 season in 2012. The article, written by Jim Trotter, cast McKenzie in a good light but Mark Davis didn’t like how the story painted him or the job done by his father, late owner Al Davis, in the previous 10 years. Gilbert had not been at the facility since the story came out, and was on leave pending Mark Davis’ decision. Will Kiss and Erin Exum have been coordinating interviews and media access during the NFL Draft and organized workouts. (h/t Sherman Report) Paul M. Banks is the owner of The Sports Bank.net.
