Almost by nature, an offensive lineman does not seek the spotlight.

They block so others can score the touchdowns, work hard to keep the prize quarterback upright, and the more games that go without their name being called the better.

But after the offensive line's performance on Sunday against the New York Jets, the big guys up front deserve some recognition.

On Sunday the Jets blitz had very little success- in fact, the offensive line's ability to pick it up allowed Michael Vick to slice apart the Jets defense. On the 12 plays that the Jets blitzed, Michael Vick was 8-12 for 168 yards and a touchdown. He also did not have to leave the pocket and run once when he was blitzed, which shows that the pressure never really got to him. Vick was also not sacked by the Jets due to a blitz.

The offensive line also did a great job run blocking, something they have excelled at all season.

Right tackle Todd Herremans and right guard Danny Watkins had particularly good days, as LeSean McCoy averaged 9 yards per carry on running plays to their side. McCoy also scored all 3 touchdowns running to the right. The left side of the line- Evan Mathis and Jason Peters- also had a solid day, as McCoy rushed to the left side 7 times, gaining 34 yards.

Earlier in the season against this weeks opponent- the Dallas Cowboys- the offensive line struggled at times, allowing 4 sacks in the game. What is more troubling is that all of the sacks came on the Cowboys' 14 blitz plays, meaning they were successful on 4 of the 14 blitzes. That is a number that will not get it done this week in what is sure to be a playoff atmosphere.

Part of the reason for the struggles during the game was the play of Jason Kelce and Danny Watkins, but with more playing time under their belts, the Eagles will have to hope they can improve upon their last performance.

The success of the offensive line on Sunday vs the Jets bodes well for their game on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams run a 3-4 defense, which is a defense that the Eagles have traditionally struggled against in the past.

But coming off of the strong play of the offensive line on Sunday, the Eagles have to feel good going into Saturday about the big guys up front- whether they want the recognition or not.
