It’s looking increasingly less likely that Clark Haggans will play against the Buccaneers this Sunday.  Haggans injured his groin (an alarmingly frequent injury for the Cardinals this year) last week against Seattle.  Haggans is the only player that has completely sat out of practice this week.

In his stead, Will Davis is expected to get the start.  “Will played 24 snaps in last week’s game and he played well,” Whisenhunt said.  “That gives you confidence.  Last year, when he got banged up (with a knee injury) at the end of the year, he was playing well then.  So I have seen it twice.  I think the light has come on for him.”  Twenty-four snaps hardly sounds like a sufficient sample size, but Davis believes he’s ready.  “I had never really heard about routes and things like that.”  Davis claims the difference in his feel for the game is “crazy.  Like night and day.  Coach (Matt) Raich said he sees me evolving.”

OTHER INJURY UPDATES:

  • WR, Steve Breaston (knee) – Whizenhunt stated that Breaston should play as he’s looked sharp in practice.  Fellow wide receiver
  • WR, Early Doucet (groin) – should be a go once again this week.
  • DE, Alan Branch (back) – newly added to the injury report this week, but it’s believed he should be available this week, even if in a limited capacity.  Branch has been a very pleasant surprise and recorded 2 sacks last week.
  • LB, Gerald Hayes (back) – Whizenhunt stated that a couple of packages were designed with Hayes in mind.  Whizenhunt said “he’s pretty close to ready to go.”  We’ll see.  Someone would have to be cut from the 53-man roster if Hayes is activated.
  • OLB, Joey Porter (groin) – should go despite a minor groin pull last week in Seattle.
  • LB, O’Brien Schofield (knee) – Whizenhunt is much less optimistic about activating the rookie linebacker, which makes sense.  There’s really no rush because it’s doubtful that Schofield would add much on the field with his limited experience at this point.
  • CB, Greg Toler (back) – also a new addition to this list and it would be devastating if Toler can’t play, but Darren Urban believes that his limited practice this week was mostly a precaution.  He should play.
