These are the dog days of the NFL offseason. Rookies and fringe players are trying to impress enough in minicamps to get a look going into training camp.  Those same players are trying to not lose their roster spots, as a release in May is never a good sign for a player’s prospects.  Players are also trying to avoid getting hurt in May, something that 49ers fifth-round rookie OLB Darius Fleming unfortunately fell victim to.  Hurt a day after signing with the 49ers, Fleming will miss his rookie year with a torn ACL. Meanwhile, the veterans are on and off this month.  After a great 2011 season that saw the 49ers win the NFC West and lose the NFC Championship in OT, the 49ers went out and added high profile free agents WR Mario Manningham, RB Brandon Jacobs, and WR Randy Moss. Manningham and first-round rookie WR A.J. Jenkins are locks to join WR Michael Crabtree in the 49ers’ wide receiver corps next season.  As detailed earlier this month when discussing Jenkins, Moss is a luxury sig...

49ers’ Jacobs, Manningham show giant commitment to new team

Just four short months ago San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mario Manningham made the biggest catch of his NFL career.  It was Manningham’s over the shoulder snag of perfectly thrown ball from Eli Manning that sustained the New York Giants game winning drive in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.  Earlier this week,

San Francisco 49ers: Projected 2012 Starting Lineups

Offense Quarterback – Alex Smith: In 2011 Alex Smith went from being forever heralded as one of the biggest draft busts in recent history to a solid starting quarterback. In 2012, the 49ers hope Smith can take this rapid transformation to the next level. With all they’ve done to improve at wide receiver this offseason, Smith has no excuse not to put up big passing numbers next...

2012 49ers NFL Draft Grades

The 49ers have had a very interesting offseason. Not content to rest on their laurels, they have added some serious explosiveness to their offense through free agency. Their draft strategy was no different. While the 49ers certainly made some surprising picks and maybe a few reaches here and there, they had a successful draft overall because they added to dynamic playmakers in A...

49ers’ Darius Fleming tears his ACL

The 49ers will have to wait a year to see their 2012 5th round pick hit the field as linebacker Darius Fleming has torn his ACL. The injury, which was suffered in practice, but did not happen because of contact, will likely sideline him for the entirety of the 2012 season. With two solid rush [...]

Report: 49ers Fleming has torn ACL

The 2012 season is likely over for 49ers rookie fifth-round pick Darius Fleming, who suffered a torn ACL at the team's rookie minicamp. NFL.com reported Fleming was injured according to the former Notre Dame linebacker's agent, Andy Simms. Fleming sat out midway through the team's first workout with what was believed to be a hamstring injury.

What I Learned from Michael Crabtree Chat

Michael Crabtree was the player whose name was drawn out of a hat this week to participate in the 49ers Player/Fan Chat. I don’t know why I was expecting that maybe a tough question would be answered. We all know that the questions are screened and that they choose the non-controversial or interesting ones. As I type this, the chat has been going on for about 30 minutes and from...

Redskins, 49ers latest to pass on 'Hard Knocks'

Cross off two more teams from the 'Hard Knocks' wish list. The 49ers and Redskins are going to pass on the HBO documentary training camp series, following the Jets, Falcons, Saints and Broncos in rejecting the camera-crew circus that comes with having the cable network film practice and off-field portions of August workouts. Owner Jed York told CSNBayArea that the 49ers...

49ers, Redskins latest to turn down ‘Hard Knocks’

It's becoming redundant at this point, but two more teams have said no to HBO about appearing on its Emmy-winning sports show. USA Today reports both the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins have turned down the opportunity to appear on the latest installment of "Hard Knocks" this summer. Niners president Jed York took to Twitter Wednesday to announce he...

Moss Getting A Do-Over In San Francisco

Randy Moss was on the outs with Tom Brady in New Engalnd? He doesn't seem to have a problem in San Francisco.

49ers 5th round pick Fleming tears ACL

Tough break for rookie linebacker Darius Fleming at San Francisco's minicamp. The team, along with the MRI results, have confirmed that it is indeed a torn ACL, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Fleming, chosen 165th overall in the 5th round, came down on his knee awkwardly during a non-contact drill.
