Earlier this week, Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reported that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has changed agents.  Watkins wrote that Romo was formerly represented by Ken Kremer (although he misspelled Kremer’s name) and will henceforth be under contract with R.J. Gonser.

While Romo’s change will be reflected on his Standard Representation Agreement, it may not be all that big of a deal.  Kremer has represented Romo for many years.  In 2008, when Romo was dating Jessica Simpson, her father even put forth an effort to have the quarterback fire Kremer and hire him to negotiate his deals.  That was surely a futile effort.  At the time, Kremer was a part of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the same agency that the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) lists Kremer with today. It is also the same agency where Gonser is employed.

So what exactly is going on here?  Is Kremer still under contract with CAA?  It appears rather odd that a player would switch from one agent to another within the same company.  Is it that Kremer is phasing out his practice?  These are questions that I have asked CAA, but have not yet received a response.

Update (10:28 a.m. EST)An NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor who is not affiliated with CAA has informed Sports Agent Blog that Kremer recently left CAA and is going to be selling disability insurance.  Still no response from CAA.
