It was a week ago that free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora declared that he was going to win the Defensive Player of the Year award in the NFL for 2013. He is going to find out that it will be difficult to do so if he doesn’t lower his price tag. There are no specific reports as to how much Osi wants in a new deal, but he made it painfully obvious over the last few years that he wanted more money than the millions already received from the New York Giants. But the Giants relented because Osi wasn’t that all-around defensive end, even though he was a fantastic edge pass rusher. It seems that reality might finally be hitting Osi as his name hasn’t been mentioned once since 4pm this past Tuesday. Osi will turn 32 in the middle of the 2013 season, and this will be his 11th year in the league. With the NFL enforcing a much stricter salary cap, teams are unwilling to give large, multi-year deals to veterans. Especially veterans that are deemed one-dimensional like Osi. There are other veteran defensive ends that are receiving offers and interviews, like John Abraham and Dwight Freeney. [...]
