Washington-redskins-new
The other day Antrel Rolle went on a mini-rant scolding his New York Giants teammates for gushing over opponent Robert Griffin III before the team played the Washington Redskins. Yesterday, despite Rolle's call for his team to get "back to being nasty," Osi Umenyiora was downright complimentary towards Drew Brees — the quarterback the Giants will face this Sunday. Drew Brees "is one of the best quarterbacks in the league," the Giants defensive end wasn't afraid to say out loud — whether or not Rolle liked it or not. It may not exactly be the pregame "hugs and kisses" that Rolle believed was showered on RG3, but it didn't sound like the "nasty attitude" he was hoping for either. Rolle jumped all over his teammates after the Giants critical 17-16 loss to the Redskins and was under the impression that the Giants had lost their edge by being nice to Griffin III before the NFC East showdown. Umenyiora, on thew other hand, doesn't any correlation between praising a player before the game and what takes place on the field. "There's definitely no carryover for that," said Unenyiora.  "I think a lot of times you like to build somebody up only to tear them down.  You don't want to give anyone bulletin board material.  You don't want to say, 'Oh, these guys suck' and he comes out and throws for 13 touchdowns on you.  So if anything you want to err on the side of caution and say how good he is and then go out there and knock his head off." Asked what he thought about Rolle giving notice that the Giants "need to start giving more credit after the game as opposed to before the game," Umenyiora was diplomatic. "That's Antel's opinion," said Umenyiora.  "But at the end of the day, if a guy's a good player I'm going to call him a good player, period." Rolle might have only been trying to compel his team to introduce rookies like RG3 to the black and blue NFC East, and not be the newbies' friendly Welcome Wagon. Brees is another case.  The New Orleans Saints quarterback in an NFL veteran with a Super Bowl ring.  He has earned the respect of defenses around the league. "We're playing Drew Brees," said Umenyiora.  He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league.  I'm going to say he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league. "If anybody has a problem with that, I guess they can take it up with me in private."

DB Rolle, Giants ready to show some more fight

Antrel Rolle wants to see a little more of the dog from the New York Giants, and not just the defense. This dog isn't a blitz though. The veteran safety who is the sparkplug on that side of the ball said Wednesday that the Giants (7-5) need to start showing the tenacity of one of those nasty dogs who is not out to make any friends if it wants to get back to the playoffs. The...

Antrel Rolle: Slumping Giants need to respect no one and be more nasty

For whatever reason, the New York Giants seem to fall asleep in the month of November and into early December every season. Fortunately, they tend to turn things on at the end of the regular season and during the playoffs. After losing three out of their last four — including a game to the Washington Redskins that has made the NFC East race incredibly tight — Tom Coughlin will...

New York Giants defense takes aim at Drew Brees and the Saints

The New York Giants are mad. After their Monday night loss to the Redskins, those that are students of the game knew that they would be. Antrel Rolle: Giants players showed too much love towards RGIII before game

It was no secret that the New York Giants praised the talents of Robert Griffin III leading up to their game with the Washington Redskins new superstar but now, after the Giants 17-16 loss to their division rivals, one New York player thinks his team showed too much respect. On Tuesday, Antrel Rolle jumped all over his Giants teammates for showing too much love for RGIII even before...

Brees aside, Giants prepare for Saints RBs, too

There's more to the New Orleans Saints offense than Drew Brees these days, and the New York Giants know it. While ranked 27th in the league in rushing, the Saints have a four-headed run attack that has averaged nearly 120 yards in the last five games. What makes the Saints' running game interesting is that Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, Chris Ivory and Mark Ingram all have...

Can the Giants beat Drew Brees and the Saints this coming Sunday?

Once again, the New York Giants are in the same place as always as they are at this point of the regualr season. They are one game up on the Redskins and Cowboys in the NFC East division and they have to beat the Saints in order to stay where they are. And beating Drew Brees is never an easy thing to do. The history of the Giants facing Drew Brees hasn't been ever that good...

The Push for the Playoffs (NFC) – Week 14 Edition

Coming into the season, there weren’t many teams in the NFC that you could rule out of the playoffs. Rookie quarterbacks in Washington and Seattle? They’re in the think of things. The Saints with Drew Brees, coming off of a 5,000 yard passing season? Well, they’re out of it. Who would’ve guessed it. It’s time to look into the NFC playoff picture as we wind down to the...

Jason Pierre-Paul says it will be easier to face Drew Brees than RG3

The New York Giants’ defense had a hard time with Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III this past Monday night.  Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is happy that they’ll be playing a typical offense then they play the Saints on Sunday. “The Redskins got a great scheme going on there, especially with their quarterback they got, and just playing that option, man, is crazy,...

New Orleans Saints at New York Giants: Week 14 NFL Pick

New Orleans Saints (5-7) at New York Giants (7-5) Earlier this week, I outlined why the Redskins should be considered the favorites to win the NFC East. The Redskins, presumably, have the tiebreaker, by virtue of their better divisional record. They are a game back right now, but they are almost definitely going favored in each of their last four games, while the Giants will be favored...

Saints-Giants Preview

The New York Giants think they need to run the table in their final four regular-season games to win the NFC East. The New Orleans Saints feel the same way about reaching the playoffs, and are drawing inspiration from the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Giants could find their division lead completely gone with a loss Sunday at MetLife Stadium, while another defeat for the Saints...
