Packers Linked As Potential Suitor For Veteran Cornerback
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have done a very solid job thus far in the 2024 offseason addressing their needs on the roster. They were more active in free agency than normal, coming away with a big prize on each side of the ball.

Offensively, they splurged on former Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs. Defensively, it was safety Xavier McKinney, formerly of the New York Giants, who received a top-of-the-market deal.

During the 2024 NFL Draft, the team hit on several more of their needs. The offensive line and safety were addressed with three selections apiece and the team added two more linebackers to the mix.

Only one selection was used on a cornerback, and it came in the seventh round on Kalen King out of Penn State. If the Green Bay Packers are going to make any moves to add an established veteran to the mix, it could very well come at cornerback.

Who could the team look to target? In the opinion of Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, another former Giants player could fit the bill; veteran Adroee Jackson. Jackson was named a free agent the team should still pursue following the draft.

Adoree’ Jackson would make sense. He has the ability to play both inside and outside. He’s a veteran corner who isn’t going to be elite but would give them another solid option with a relatively high floor,” Ballentine wrote.

There are some concerns with this group currently. Jaire Alexander had injury woes last season, but when healthy, the team is hoping he returns to his elite ways. Who lines up opposite him remains a question.

Will 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes be able to shake the injury bug and regain the level of production he showed as a rookie? Will 2023 seventh-round pick Carrington Valentine continue his development? How will Keisean Nixon hold up as the only player with extensive slot corner experience in the NFL?

Adding some experienced depth in the former of Jackson would be a smart move for the Green Bay Packers. He offers insurance across the defensive backfield and can be a starter in a pinch if the need arises.
