Victimized by another pick-six by the Chicago defense Panthers quarterback Cam Newton can take solace in the fact he won’t have to face the Bears in the regular season. Newton played three series and accounted for two touchdowns – one for the Bears on an interception that rookie linebacker Jonathan Bostic returned for a score – in the Panthers’ 24-17 victory in the exhibition opener for both teams at Bank of America Stadium on Friday night. It’s the third time in as many games that the Bears have picked off Newton and returned it for a touchdown. The first two came in regular-season games in 2011 and 2012 – both Chicago victories. Newton said he hated leaving the game on a sour note but is looking forward to next week’s game against the Eagles when he figures to play a more extended role. “It’s tough. I begged and pleaded so I could get one more series. I’m going home with an interception my last throw. It’s disgusting. But it’s something you’ve got to ...

Bears Preseason Opener Is A Brutal Tease

I loathe preseason football, even if the Chicago Bears are playing. It might be the biggest tease that comes every a year. There are guys on my television wearing football gear. They're definitely on a football field. There's even a pigskin out there. But what in Sam Hill are those guys doing with it?Preseason football kind of looks like a football game, but it really isn...

Concussion for Bears' Henry Melton in preseason opener

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton suffered a concussion during Friday night's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, and as a precaution, we may not see him again until the strat of the regular season. Melton, who's currently playing under the franchise tag, left in the first quarter and didn't return. "Henry has a concussion and he'll be in...

Carolina Panthers win sloppy preseason opener

The Carolina Panthers opened the 2013 preseason with a sloppy 24-17 win over the Chicago Bears. Josh Norman, a second-year cornerback out of Coastal Carolina, lost his starting  spot late last season was outstanding for the Panthers’ defense. His two interceptions – one setting up a score and the other returned for a touchdown – was the result of his hard work during training...

Exclusive: Witness to Jay Cutler DON’T CARE story talks Monday

I tracked down an actual eye witness to the infamous Jay Cutler “DON’T CARE” bathroom incident. And I have his account in hand. Of course, today is a Sunday, and that’s a very slow traffic day. So it’ll have to wait for Monday. What time Monday? The hour when most people are opening their inboxes, or going online during their lunch breaks. And most editors are done with...

Rookie MLB Jon Bostic is making a serious push to unseat D.J. Williams in the starting lineup.

While Williams has been out with a calf injury, Bostic is soaking up first-team practice reps. In the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Bostic was selected by the Bears with the 50th pick overall and he is considered the Bears' future at the position. Bostic’s mentorship under D.J. Williams has turned into a battle for the starting job. He started at middle linebacker against...

Cutler on relationship with Trestman: 'No real serious bumps yet'

We already know that the 2013 season is awfully important for Bears quarterback Jay Cutler's future. He's in the final year of his contract and he most likely won't be receiving a long-term extension before the end of the season (so says general manager Phil Emery who did however choose Cutler over former coach Lovie Smith). And it makes sense to pay Cutler his $8.47...

Chicago Bears gear up for Carolina Panthers

The long-awaited day has finally arrived. Football is upon us! Okay, so it’s not quite that exciting. It may only be the preseason, but it’s real football with real scrubs and real plays and real tackling. It’s better than six months of nothing. Most of the best players won’t be playing, or at least playing much, […]The post Chicago Bears gear up for Carolina Panthers...

Kenjon Barner Turning Heads with Panthers

Panthers rookie running back Kenjon Barner has been impressive so far during the training camp, but it's a crowded backfield in Carolina.Fantasy Spin:With DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert already under contract, and quarterback Cam Newton running for touchdowns himself, there isn't much room for a rookie to make an immediate fantasy impact.

Panthers CB Norman eager to reclaim starting job

Josh Norman is eager to reclaim the starting job he lost last December following a bad game. So far, so good. The Panthers second-year cornerback made a statement Friday night by intercepting two passes and returning one 60 yards for a touchdown to spark Carolina to a 24-17 preseason victory over Chicago. Norman was on the field for the first play against the Bears, but only because...

Jon Bostic pushing for starting linebacker job with Bears

DJ Williams looked like he would be the heir to Brian Urlacher in Chicago when the Bears signed him in the offseason. But after the Bears first preseason game, rookie linebacker Jon Bostic could very well take over that starting middle linebacker position come week one of the regular season. A second round pick out of the University of Florida, Bostic returned an interception of...

Game Recap: Bears Have Plenty To Improve On After Preseason Debut

It certainly wasn't all smiles for the Chicago Bears in their preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers. Of course losing 24-17 in the preseason isn't a big deal, but it would have been nice to see the Bears have a little more continuity. That's what the preseason is for. To smooth things out and find those role players a the back-end of your roster. The Bears...
