BY DAN BEGNOCHEHaving an All-Pro quarterback is one thing, but having a receiver who's actually akin to the system he's running is another thing entirely.Such is the case with New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who signed a new one-year contract with the team Wednesday, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today.Edelman is now the only wideout on the Pats' current depth chart who hauled in a pass from Brady last year, as the team has brought in a number of new faces to try to fill the void of Wes Welker and solidify its perimeter presence. Yesterday the 'mini-Welker' came to terms with the Patriots, and the two parties agreed on a one year deal. With this deal, WR Julian Edelman. Although he has won over the hearts of Patriots fans, it was highly unlikely for a role player like himself to get much money. The Patriots have re-signed wide receiver Julian Edelman to a one year contract, according to a league source. Edelman recorded 21 receptions for 235 yards and three touchdowns in nine games in 2012, and saw a significant increase in playing time at the beginning of the season with the absence of Wes Welker. The Patriots will resign receiver Julian Edelman today, according to a Mike Garafolo report.Fantasy Spin:Edelman has shown the ability to replicate Wes Welker-type receiving numbers on a short-term basis, but has never done it for a full season. He'll likely back up injury-prone Danny Amendola and have fantasy value only as a handcuff.
The Patriots are once again trying to prove that they are smarter than everyone else. They signed Danny Amendola and Michael Jenkins a few weeks ago.

ESPN is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders, has signed the Patriots offer sheet on a one-year deal. That is significant, because the Steelers have one of the leagues worst cap situations and tendered Sanders as an original round value. They can either choose to match the offer to Sanders or take a third round pick from New England.
With Sanders due...
The Patriots made some moves today by extending an offer sheet to Pittsburgh RFA Emmanuel Sanders, and resigning oft-injured but clearly talented slot receiver Julian Edelman. Should the Sanders signing stand, the moves will add depth to a position where the team had some glaring needs.
Looking at the Sanders signing specifically, initially it was surprising to me for a number of...
