EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. After months of holding him back, the Minnesota Vikings are letting Adrian Peterson run right at the Jacksonville Jaguars in Sundays 2012 regular-season opener. Petersons goal ever since surgeryon Dec. 30 to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee has been to return by the first game of this season, and he is active for Sundays noon CT matchup. Saturday night, CBSSports.coms Jason La Canfora cited a team source in a tweet that said Peterson would get 10 to 15 carries if he played Sunday. After getting more carries and taking full contact in practice this week, Frazier was going to meet with the teams medical staff and other decision-makers Friday night and Saturday to determine if they were ready to take the reins off Peterson after hesat out the entire preseason. Peterson, a four-time Pro Bowl pick, has been saying hes ready for weeks.Im ready to play, Peterson said Thursday. So thats 10 snaps, five, 25, 30, Im ready to roll. Thats my mindset and how Im feeling about it. So, Im just going to keep my mind, my mindset, pointed in that direction. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said Thursday that he didnt have much doubt Peterson would be ready for Sundays game and that the team had a designated number of snaps for Peterson in the game plan if he was indeed active. Toby Gerhart still willlikely take the majority of the carries Sunday. Weve talked about it as a staff, a plan for when hes in there, when Tobys in there, when we spell both of them with Matt Asiata, Musgrave said. I think its a good plan, and it will benefit everybody. Peterson is just 66 yards away from the Vikings all-time rushing mark held by Robert Smith with 6,818 yards. Peterson has 6,752 yards in his five-year career, including four of the top five all-time single-season rushing marks in franchise history. Sincebreaking into the league in 2007, he has scored the most touchdowns in the NFL with 67.Follow Brian Hall on Twitter.
