It’s the final night of preseason football and for many, that is a sigh of relief. For others, however, it is the last opportunity they will have to prove their worth on their respective team’s roster. Photo Credit: PhiladelphiaEagles.com As is the case in Thursday night’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, where many of the names most would come to see will trade their helmet and shoulder pads for a visor hat and t-shirt. There will not be any Tebowmania nor any Michael Vick heroics—just good, clean competitive football. For the Eagles, a number of question marks still hang over their heads as they face their final test before cuts will be made to trim the roster down to 53. Those on the bubble will be biting their fingernails, striving to do whatever they can to earn their coaches’ approval one last time. There may be no starters to watch in this meeting, but there will be plenty to keep an eye on. Here are five things to watch from the Eagles in their fina...

Which 3 Eagles players helped themselves the most in Philadelphia’s preseason finale?

QB Trent Edwards fights for a roster spot. Image via the Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles rounded out a perfect preseason with their 28-10 win over the New York Jets on Thursday night. Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeff Laurie says team needs to improve or Coach Andy Reid is gone

2011 was supposed to be the Philadelphia Eagles year. Michael Vick was locked up for the foreseeable future. DeSean Jackson was on board – as much as one can be in football without the security of a long term deal in place. Another conversation for another day – and the players had a head coach [...]

Philadelphia Eagles Akeem Jordan An Unlikely Starter

Andy Reid announced this week that Akeem Jordan will start at weakside linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles on opening day.  Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and Reid shocked the world with this announcement.  Some reporters, myself even (although my most recent mock final roster had him as a lock), had Jordan being cut from the Eagles roster before opening day.  So...

Andy Reid needs better than 8-8 to keep job

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made it clear earlier this offseason that Eagles coach Andy Reid was and is on the hot seat. On Thursday, Lurie made sure no one misunderstood and gave Andy Reid some extra pressure. Lurie said at a news conference “8-8 would not” be good enough for Reid to return as head coach in 2013. “We need substantial improvement,” Lurie...

Baylor's Griffin among Jets' cuts

Former Baylor player Robert Griffin has been cut. No, not that one. The Jets released 15 players Friday, including tackle Robert T. Griffin, who blocked for Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III at Baylor and was New York's sixth-round draft pick. He is not related to the Redskins quarterback chosen No. 2 overall in the draft. Quarterback Matt Simms, the son of Phil Simms...

Ryan: "I really like this team''

An 0-4 preseason record with a first-string offense that never reached the end zone doesn't seem like a source for optimism. Rex Ryan is optimistic. The New York Jets coach says he ''really likes this team'' and can see it being his best since taking the job in 2009. That would be impressive considering Ryan's first two clubs made the playoffs as a wild...

JETS SCORE TOUCHDOWN; LOSE TO EAGLES 28-10

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. -- The Jets touchdown woes are over. You may now exhale and, slowly, remove your hand from the panic button. After three games, 13 quarters, 37 offensive drives, 201 minutes, 199 plays the team's third-string quarterback, Greg McElroy, found the rookie Terrance Ganaway six yards out for the first score of the preseason."Now I just want more of them,"...

Today corner back Ryan Steed of Furman University was informed of his release by the New York Jets.  Ryan was one of the draft picks that several draft analysts claimed could be be drafted in the first round. Steed is a very talented athlete who was a star basketball player in high school out of South Carolina. Steed was one of the best shut down corners in the SoCon division last...

Fantasy Flatliners–The New York Jets

The final preseason installment of the Fantasy Flatliners is for yet another entire team to avoid. This time it’s the New York Jets and the team is all-around worthless. You have to start at quarterback when thinking about the putrid stench coming off the Jets. Mark Sanchez hasn’t been able to hit the broadside of a barn with his passes so far this preseason. Tim Tebow hasn...

Rex Ryan: could be “the best team that I’ve had”

Wake up media, the old Rex Ryan is back. No, he didn’t gain all the weight back, but he flapped his gums for the first time in forever, and it all reminded us just how much the guy loves to talk his team up. The light has been shining on the New York Jets all [...]
