Mike Kafka will wear an Eagles uniform no more.
It seemed pretty clear leading up to Thursday, and after the Eagles’ defeat of the Jets in their preseason finale there could be no doubt: Trent Edwards had fought for and won a spot on Philadelphia’s roster.
The news became official on Friday afternoon.
Who could have ever predicted this turn of events at the start of training camp, not least at the start of the preseason?
Mike Kafka’s injury to his hand early in the Eagles’ first preseason game against the Steelers allowed Edwards to make up for all of the snaps he didn’t get in practice and show what he could do. And even his strongest doubters couldn’t help but be impressed with the poise and precision that Edwards showed each and every opportunity he had on the field. Oh, and his 4 TDs and 100.5 passer rating didn’t hurt, either.

It was reported earlier that the Eagles were looking to trade Kafka, but they likely drew very little interest, which led to them releasing him.
The Eagles, like the rest of the NFL trimmed their roster to 53 players yesterday. There weren’t too many surprises, but a couple of names have been around town for a while and will now be looking for new homes. Another player found a new home in Philly.
