With Andy Reid gone and Chip Kelly staying at Oregon, the Philadelphia Eagles continued their search for the franchise's next head coach. The Eagles announced Tuesday that they will indeed meet for an interview with former-Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith. Smith was fired after the Bears missed the playoffs, despite a 10-6 record. He interviewed with the Buffalo Bills last week, but that search came to an end when Buffalo decided to hire Syracuse coach Doug Marrone. Smith has coached 17 years in the NFL, spending the last nine with the Bears. He has spent time as the linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as the defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams. As a head coach, Smith has a 81-63 record, which is a .563 winning percentage. He also has won three division championships and made one trip to the Super Bowl in 2006, where his team lost to the Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles list of possible coaching candidates is very long. Some of the names on the list include people such as Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, as well as Gruden's brother John who has spent the past couple of years as a part of the Monday Night Football crew. The Eagles will likely try to find a coach that can deal with the pressures of playing in Philadelphia. There is no leading candidate at this time. Anything can happen. Be on the look out because a deal could be on the horizon with a coach who will likely fit the direction of the Eagles franchise. David A.
