Robert Griffin III‘s play has catapulted the Redskins back into the playoff picture just a month after the team appeared to be focused on next season. But the rookie quarterback may not be available this weekend, according to one of his teammates. Griffin hurt his knee during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over the Ravens and was unable to finish the game. Fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins came on in relief and did his best RG3 impersonation, pulling out the overtime win in epic fashion. Now, with questions swirling about Griffin’s status for this coming weekend, wide receiver Pierre Garcon may have let some news slip. While making his rounds on a group of ESPN programs Tuesday, Garcon let on that he wasn’t expecting Griffin to start Sunday, even referencing Cousins by name a few times. “We have a little bit tougher of a task with Kirk starting,” Garcon said. The indications didn’t stop there, though. “We have to play well around Kirk so Kirk doesn’t feel like he has to save the team and help him to be a comfortable as possible,” Garcon said next. That’s three “Kirk” references in one interview, and all indications point toward RG3 missing the first start, and game, of his young NFL career. But Redskins fans shouldn’t fret just yet. Cousins has been impressively accurate and calm during his brief time under center this season, completing 7 of 11 passes and a pair of scores, including the touchdown and two-point conversion that forced overtime Sunday. Either way, Mike Shanahan surely won’t be too happy with Garcon come meeting time Wednesday morning. The Redskins’ No. 1 receiver may want to start working on his apology speech.
