Police say Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure was caught chewing marijuana during a recent traffic stop in southwestern Michigan.
The incident on March 12 occurred less than a month after police in a different Berrien County community say they caught Leshoure with marijuana. Prosecutor Art Cotter says Leshoure was due in court Monday for the more recent case but hadn't appeared by 4 p.m.
A police report said Leshoure was a passenger in a car stopped on Interstate 94 in Lake Township. The officer reported seeing him chewing marijuana and noticed small pieces on his shirt. Leshoure and the driver were ticketed for marijuana possession.
The Lions declined to comment. Leshoure was drafted in 2011 from Illinois but missed his rookie season after tearing an Achilles tendon in training camp.

A year ago this month, Mikel Leshoure was selected in the second round of the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions.
There were high hopes for the 6-foot, 227-pound running back, but not much has gone right for Leshoure since that day.

The Detroit Lions have found their new Charles Rogers. The former first-round draft pick was long on potential, stupidity and arrests and short on production.
The guy getting ready to take Rogers place in Lions’ lore is running back Mikel Leshoure. Last year’s second-round pick has racked up two marijuana charges since February. Today, he didn’t show up for court and a warrant...
The Detroit Lions have impressively hit on almost all of their draft picks last year. The Lions only made five selections in the 2011 draft and, incredibly, three of the players have been arrested for marijuana possession since their rookie season ended.
First-round pick defensive tackle Nick Fairley (pictured at left) was spotted speeding in Mobile, Ala., Tuesday and was pulled...
The running back position.
It is easily the Lions' most unstable position given the talent on staff. Expect this instability to have effects on how the Lions approach the upcoming draft.
It is true that reports are encouraging that Mikel Leshoure is on track, even ahead of schedule, to return from a devastating Achilles injury. Kevin Smith has been resigned. Jahvid Best is...
One day after the Detroit Lions second round draft pick Mikel LeShoure was busted on Marijuana Possession charges, the Lions first round pick Nick Fairley busted on the same charges.
Fairley was busted in Mobile Alabama on second degree possession charges and driving on a suspended drivers license. He missed a few games due to injury last season, coming in to finish the year with...
So... Has anyone thought of introducing a 28 game season?
How about an extra 10 preseason games? Or maybe a mandatory off-season training program that runs from February to August?
This is not due to a desperate need for content. Its not an attempt to improve the quality of play, either.
No, apparently, some of the younger members of the Detroit Lions have too much time on their...
