The Giants walked out with a win in the first game in the New Meadowlands Stadium, beating the crosstown rival New York Jets 31 – 16. The Giants played their starters into the start of the second quarter, while the Jets played their first unit into halftime. The “battle for the bragging rights” in New York went to Big Blue, but head coach Tom Coughlin and his staff are much more concerned with the performance of individual units and the shaping of their roster going forward, and got their first chance to assess their young players in the preseason opener.
