According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, free agent to be Kenny Phillips received an off from the Giants, however, it missed the mark badly.
The 26 year old Phillips looks to be heading to free agency in the prime of his career, and most likely will get a lot of attention from safety needy teams. The cash strapped Giants want Phillips to stay but are running out of time in their attempt to retain him. Vacchiano writes:
‘The Giants made an offer to safety Kenny Phillips in the hopes of keeping him off the open market. But it wasn’t nearly enough, according to an NFL source, and any chance of Phillips re-signing in the next few days appear gone.
The Giants are apparently being cautious with the 26-year-old who missed nine games last season with a sprained right MCL. He also had major surgery on his left knee back in 2009 and hasn’t really been the same player since.’
