The preseason has ended, and everyone can take a sigh of relief the games that don't count in the standings are over.
The Indianapolis Colts picked up its second win of the preseason in defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Andrew Luck and all players who appear to be the starters only played in the game's first series, with the majority of playing time going to guys trying to play their way onto the team. And there were a few standout performances that earned guys spots, but for others there doesn't seem to be enough roster space for everyone.
Here is my projected view of what the 2012 Indianapolis Colts 53-man roster could look like after the final 22 cuts are made this weekend.
Andrew Luck, Drew Stanton, Chandler Harnish
No surprise here as all three quarterbacks are safely going to be on the roster.
Donald Brown, Delone Carter, Mewelde Moore, Vick Ballard
These four have been the top backs in camp, with Ballard getting to show off his skill set because of injuries to Carter and Moore. Looks like a toss up between Darren Evans and Deji Karim for a practice squad spot.
Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, Donnie Avery, T.Y. Hilton, LaVon Brazill, Kashif Moore
It appears to be a close as a coin flip between Moore and Kris Adams, but the nod is given to Moore under the assumption that as a recent signee, the Colts see some sort of potential.
Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen, Dominique Jones, Kyle Miller
There wasn't going to be a fourth tight end, but there is so much inexperience at this position that someone needs to fill it.
Anthony Castonzo, Jeff Linkenbach, Seth Olsen, Joe Reitz, Samson Satele, A.Q. Shipley, Winston Justice, Mike Tepper, Mike McGlynn, Justin Snow
Justin Anderson should be lifted from the Physically Unable to Perform List sometime in the first six weeks of the regular season, meaning one of these individuals will go.
Cory Redding, Fili Moala, Drake Nevis, Ricardo Mathews, Antonio Johnson, James Aiono
This was the most questionable of the roster decisions I have about this. I don't think the team will only take six, but looking through the roster, I can't find anyone else that makes it. Brandon McKinney's move to injured reserve really hurts the depth available, as well as Josh Chapman's continued recovery from off-season surgery.
Keep in mind the Colts are going to have the first chance at many guys who are going to be on waivers, and this probably is the first position the team looks at.
Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Pat Angerer, Kavell Conner, Jerry Hughes, Jerrell Freeman, Moise Fokou, Greg Lloyd, Tim Fugger, Mario Addison
This is why I thought six was too few on the defensive line, because there are 10 linebackers listed. I'm even disappointed, as I wanted to put Mario Harvey here as well, but frankly there aren't enough spots, in general manager speak.
Jerraud Powers, Vontae Davis, Justin King, Antoine Bethea, Tom Zbikowski, Joe Lefeged, Jermale Hines, Mike Newton
The trade for Davis hurt D.J. Johnson's chances of making the 53-man roster. The argument can be made about Newton being here, but he has showed a knack for often finding the ball carrier in the open field and taking him down.
Adam Vinatieri, Pat McAfee
Vinatieri is on his way to becoming an ageless wonder and Colts fans would miss McAfee's commentary if he was no longer around. Plus, they're the only two kickers still on the roster.
