Andy Benoit says that good quarterbacks aren't good enpugh: The last game-managing quarterback to win a title was Brad Johnson in 2002 with Tampa Bay. Since Johnson, the list of quarterbacks who have hoisted a Lombardi Trophy reads like a roll call for future Hall of Fame inductees: Tom Brady (2), Ben Roethlisberger (2), Peyton Manning, Eli Manning (2), Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. Front offices around the league have taken note. On Thursday, after the Colts draft Andrew Luck and the Redskins draft Robert Griffin III, 28 of the 32 starting N.F.L. quarterbacks entering 2012 will have either been drafted in the first round or will be playing under a contract worth at least $20 million guaranteed.

Eli Manning says "I’m still the third most-talked-about quarterback in my own city.”

Eli Manning is obviously feeling a certain kind of way in regards to all of the hype surrounding the “other” QBs in his city. Manning participated at an event at his former college Ole Miss and sarcastically poked fun at the consistent chatter about the New York Jets Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez. Revisiting "Old Manning'

There will probably never be a 'closing of the book' on Peyton Manning in Indianapolis, but given that the Andrew Luck era will officially begin on Thursday night, now is as good a time as any for one more look at the decision to let Manning walk. A reader recently requested that I go back and reexamine the predictions I made in the 'Old Manning' piece I wrote before...

Peyton Manning “leading everything” during OTA’s

Denver Broncos wide receiver Andre Caldwell has been very impressed with how quarterback Peyton Manning has been “leading everything” so far during OTA’s. “He’s literally leading everything. He’s setting us up, putting us in the right positions. He’s not running the drills — definitely he and [Eric] Decker go hand-in-hand with that — but he’s pretty much the...

Peyton Manning, Broncos Featured in Five Primetime Games in 2012

Five nationally televised games—including a home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football—and matchups with four of the seven other 2011 Division Champions—will highlight quarterback Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos’ 2012 regular-season schedule, which was released by the National Football League last Tuesday. This year’s five contests featured...

Ole Miss honors Eli Manning with a 10 MPH speed limit.

How do you honor a former Ole Miss quarterback who went on to win two Super Bowls? You do it in the dorkiest way possible, apparently. Ole Miss has decided to pay tribute to former Rebel and current Super Bowl champion New York Giants QB Eli Manning by lowering the speed limit on Manning Way (named in honor  Eli's dad, Ole Miss legend Archie Manning) from 18 MPH to 10 MPH...

2012-2013 NFL Schedule: The Good, the Bad, and the Really Funny

The NFL has released their 2012-2013 season schedule and it isn’t without the usual fanfare. It took me a couple of days to fully process what I was looking at and now I can say that there are some teams that will be thrown into it early (Cincinnati and Baltimore play week 1), some teams that may be looking at an early hole (Philadelphia Eagles) and some teams could benefit greatly...

Patriots Set To Win The East, Again

The Patriots are in a good position to make another run at the division. They also have a rematch with Peyton Manning on the schedule.

Indianapolis Colts: Why Massive Rebuilding Is Exactly What the Franchise Needed

Just two years ago the Indianapolis Colts were 14-0, making a run at a perfect season and on their way to Super Bowl XLIV. Now, days away from the 2012 NFL draft, they are rebuilding, or as new coach Chuck Pagano says, “building the monster.” The question many Colts fans are still pondering: Was such a massive rebuilding process really necessary? The answer—Yes. Even though...

1998 Peyton Manning vs. 2012 Andrew Luck, Part 1

This is Part 1 of a four part series titled “1998 Manning versus 2012 Luck.”   Never in the history of the National Football League have we ever seen a situation like the one the Indianapolis Colts have. Their captain, their leader, their heart and soul has voluntarily been sent away after 14 great and remembered years. All because of complications of a neck injury, age, and...

The Ole Miss band had a third of their stadium to themselves

Via @38GodfreyThe Ole Miss Rebels (or Black Bears if you are politically correct) had their spring game today at 1 pm kicking off the Hugh Freeze era. Our friend gorgeus @RickMuscles who contributes to Every Day Should Be Saturday and Friends of The Program, attended the spring game in person. He was able to get another view of the Ole Miss band. We salute you Ole Miss band.It is...

John Elway: “Peyton is not involved in the draft process.”

According to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, during Monday’s pre-draft press conference, Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway stated that quarterback Peyton Manning “is not involved in the draft process.” Elway’s statement only tells me that Manning hasn’t been involved with the draft process that the guys in the front office go through...
