Dwight Freeney may be itching to play football more than any other player in the NFL. The start of training camp will mark 10 months since the pass rushing specialist has been on the field alongside his “brothers.” Freeney recently spoke on Boltscast talking about his progress this offseason. “Coaches and the training staff are putting those reins around me, trying to hold me back.” The 13-year veteran is known as a workout warrior and even had his training program featured in Men’s Health. I can only imagine how hard it is for the training staff to try to limit this guy from tearing up the weight room. With that being said, the thing Dwight Freeney misses the most is playing alongside his teammates. “The thing I miss the most, is being out there with my fellow man, [my] fellow brothers out there…I am really looking forward to getting back out there.” Last week, I got the chance to dig deeper into Freeney’s on field-stats from this past season. You can read my piece here, and learn (as I did), that he was on pace to have a big 2013. Unfortunately, the sack numbers weren’t there, but other statistics show just how effective he was at putting pressure on the quarterback. And if he had 12 more games to show his stuff last season, I think he would have been a double-digit sack man based on his QB hurries pace (was on pace to lead the league at 3-4 OLB with 60 hurries). It’s good to see the excitement back in the big man’s eyes. I think he’s going to be key for the Chargers this season.
