After four weeks of training camp in wine country, the Oakland Raiders have packed up and headed home with hopes that their work here will translate to the playing field when the season starts Sept. 8.
The Raiders held their final practice in Napa on Wednesday before moving back to their full-time headquarters in Alameda. They play their third exhibition game on Friday night against the Chicago Bears.
Coach Dennis Allen said he thought it was a successful camp that allowed him to evaluate the players he wants to keep for the regular season.
The Raiders endured a few injuries in the past month, with the most significant being a torn left triceps that is expected to sideline left tackle Jared Veldheer for at least half the season.
But despite that blow, the Raiders are leaving Napa with confidence.
''We're a different team now than we were at the start of camp on Day 1,'' quarterback Matt Flynn said. ''We've made a lot of improvements, gotten used ...

The Oakland Raiders let long tenured punter Shane Lechler leave, without really extending an offer to him. They let him leave because they had a kid on the injured reserve from last year named Marquette King. Marquette is a big kid, that looks like a wide receiver. King is a guy you would not want […]

Terrelle Pryor has switched his jersey number to No. 2 for the Raiders, and to explain this curious change, one can only assume that Pryor falls into one of the following categories:
1. He is not superstitious.
2. He is crazy.
Either way, Pryor, who had been No. 6 the last two years, is still associating himself with some rather dubious and unflattering company by embracing the...
Very few fantasy relevant storylines fly below the radar this time of year. Those “sleepers” that you’ve known about for months have made their way into the mainstream with big preseason performances. Every semi-competitive owner in your league is aware of the latest injury news, and which players stand to benefit most as a result. To unearth a true sleeper this close to...
With a change at the quarterback position and the departure of Darrius Heyward-Bey to Indianapolis, many around the league expected Oakland Raiders wide receiver Denarius Moore to assume a bigger role and be the true #1 option. Coming off a season in which he caught 7 touchdowns with 741 yards, it seemed only natural for the young wideout to continue to improve.
Not everyone has...
D.J. Hayden finally gets the chance to answer the critics who thought the Oakland Raiders made a risky bet when they drafted him 12th overall in April.
Hayden will make his exhibition debut for Oakland on Friday night against the Chicago Bears in his first game action of any kind since a near-fatal practice collision ended his college career last November and raised questions about...
One of the pivotal plays in the Saints first-teams drubbing the Raiders top players was Oakland’s inability to convert a first down on 4th & inches.
I was curious what had happened in this play as it was such a poor display of how to run the football and the results surprised me.
I had initially thought that the offensive line had no push and had allowed multiple defenders...
What is unemployed Matt Leinart up to these days without work in the NFL? It seems he’s just hacking around Manhattan Beach…
Let me just start by saying the Raiders offensive line is awful, especially with Jared Veldheer out for at least eight games, and nothing they can do this close to the season, aside from convincing the league to legalize holding, will be able to improve it.
That said, welcome to the team, Tony Hills!
The Raiders needed to bolster their corps of tackles and signed Hills to a contract...
The Raiders face the Chicago Bears in week 3 of the 2013 Pre-season. Here are some of the top keys for the Raiders to feel like the week was a success, no matter the final score:
1. O-line improvement: The offensive line has been just that, offensive, for the first two weeks of the pre-season. The Raiders haven’t been able to run nor has pass protection been in any way reassuring...
