CLEVELAND - NOVEMBER 14: Owner Woody Johnson of the New York Jets talks with general manager Mike Holmgren of the Cleveland Browns prior to the start of their game at Cleveland Browns Stadium on November 14, 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Matt Sullivan/Getty Images)
Oakland Raiders general manager, Reggie McKenzie is hoping to hire Mike Holmgren to aid in the development of the team. Holmgren and McKenzie worked together in Green Bay. Reports of the interest in the former Packers and Seahawks head coach state that there is no title for him yet, but with Holmgren’s past success any help should move the Raiders in the right direction. As a head coach for the Packers and Seahawks, Holmgren won a Super Bowl title for each team. Mike also was the president for the Cleveland Browns for the past three years and left due to a change in ownership. There is speculation that Holmgren would aid in the team’s goal of building a new stadium. ESPN has stated they got this information from two unnamed sources. When reporters asked for a comment on this story, the Raiders declined to talk in any great detail about the situation. The director of media relations for the Raiders, Zak Gilbert, did leave the following statement, “As a general policy, the Raiders don’t comment on personnel matters, so the team isn’t able to confirm or deny the report. If the organization has more to say in the future, I will let you know.” In other team news it looks like the front office will try and restructure quarterback Carson Palmer’s current contract. Palmer is looking to make $13 million this season. Back in 2011 the Raiders traded a 2012 first round pick and second round pick in this year’s draft. Palmer threw for 22 touchdowns and had 14 interception and with a total of 4,018 passing yards. With the recent restructuring of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s contract this could be a theme around the league.  The Raiders seem to be looking to make smarter choices with the possibility of hiring Mike Holmgren and trying to be salary cap savvy.
