Reports are the Oakland Raiders will cut bait with current offensive coordinator Greg Knapp sometime this week. The Raiders entered 2012 with the hopes of an explosive offense, but in the end all they had was the offensive blowing up in their face.
The Raiders offense was ranked 8th in the NFL in passing, but 28th in rushing, and most of the passing yards came in dire situations where teams were playing safe defenses.
The running game had been a position of strength in the past; however, in 2012 it was non-existent. Knapp in his first year as the Raiders offensive coordinator brought a zone blocking scheme that was not the right fit for talented running back Darren McFadden.
The often injured, but ultra talented McFadden never could get untracked in Knapp’s offense and the issue went as high as owner Mark Davis who advised McFadden to ‘talk’ to Knapp midseason. McFadden expressed his frustration after Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Chargers:
