The Oakland Raiders signed veteran cornerback Shawntae Spencer to a one-year deal on Monday. Spencer spent eight seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before being released last week. The 30-year-old had five tackles in nine games last season. Spencer, a second-rounder in 2004 out of Pittsburgh, recorded 42 tackles, three interceptions and one sack in 2010.

What the Oakland Raiders Free Agency Activity Means for Team in 2012

The Oakland Raiders came into the offseason with salary cap issues and needing to improve a team that finished a disappointing 8-8 last season. New general manager Reggie McKenzie was hired to reshape the Raiders’ front office and establish a new philosophy to guide the team into the future. McKenzie has a plan and as time passes his philosophies will slowly be revealed. So far...

Report: 49ers, Smith agree to terms

The San Francisco 49ers agreed to terms with quarterback Alex Smith, NFL Network reported on Tuesday. The terms were not disclosed. Smith, who had been a free agent on a short-term deal from last offseason, progressed in the 49ers defense. Smith led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game last season in head coach Jim Harbaugh's first season. He met with the Miami Dolphins...

Alex Smith to sign with 49ers

The 49ers flirted with Peyton Manning but didn't get him. Now they're going back to Alex Smith as their quarterback.

Alex Smith finally re-signs with the 49ers

According to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, free agent quarterback Alex Smith has agreed to terms  with the San Francisco 49ers on a new contract.  It’s likely the three-year, $24 million deal that the 49ers have been offering him for the past month or so. At the end of the day, Smith clearly thought he was a lot more valuable on the open market as a free agent then he...

Manning a lock in San Francisco?

Is it far-fetched to believe that the reason Alex Smith is visiting other teams because he has inside info on Peyton Manning signing with the 49ers? I think not it makes perfect sense. Alex and Peyton share a common bond, the same agent. I believe it is not a coincidence that less then 24 hrs after Peyton concludes his workouts and it is announced that there is a decision lurking...

Vince Young Expresses Interest in 49ers and No One Cares

After Peyton Manning chose the Denver Broncos and Alex Smith showing strong interest in the Dolphins, I came across this tweet from Vince Young. Apparently his sports management team tweeted that the Dolphins might be interested in Young, to which Vince responded or the 49ers. “@DeniseWhite_EAG: How about @VinceYoung to the Dolphins? I hear rumblings? Would he be a good fit for...

Top 12 reasons why Alex Smith came back to San Francisco

12) Thinks that with a just a bit more seasoning and better weapons at wideout, he can make everyone forget Jim Drucken- miller11) Like everyone else who plays for the Niners, is secretly... fond of the uniform's color scheme and logo10) Miami would rather sign David Garrard, which just isn't one of those sentences that you expect to read in English9) Can't wait to kill...

Manningham Heads To The Bay Area

Wide receiver Mario Manningham has agreed to a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Financial terms were not disclosed. Fantasy Spin: Manningham will work in the No. 3 role behind Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss, and will also have to fight stud tight end Vernon Davis for targets - but ultimately turned down a larger role with St. Louis and Miami for a chance to win another...

Report: QB Alex Smith to visit Miami

A person familiar with the move says that San Francisco free agent quarterback Alex Smith will visit with Miami. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced Sunday's meeting. Smith's visit with the Dolphins comes after Peyton Manning worked out for San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh last week at Duke. The 49ers are...

At Least They Got A Manningham

Mario Manningham is hell of a receiver, but I don’t think he was the top ‘Manning’ Niner fans wanted to bring in. You have to admit… It would at least be a little funny if the 49ers lost Alex Smith because they took a shot at landing Peyton.  Even if you’re a Niner fan, you have to laugh at the situation.  Well maybe not laugh, but definitely think to yourself…’That...

QB Alex Smith should swallow his pride and return to the San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers flirted with a future Hall of Fame quarterback last week as they were in the chase for QB Peyton Manning. Ultimately, the 49ers missed out on Manning and in their actions, bruised the ego of one Alex Smith. Smith reportedly was looking to change agents on Saturday night, being represented by the same agent as Peyton Manning, Tom Condon. Alex Smith...

Report: Alex Smith Agrees to New Contract With 49ers

Re-signing Alex Smith may very well have been Plan B for the 49ers, but San Francisco made sure it didn't have to turn to a Plan C. Smith has agreed to a new contract to stay with the 49ers, according to ESPN's John Clayton. The deal will pay the quarterback an average of roughly $8 million annually, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Smith, who was a free agent, had...
