A year ago, the Seattle Seahawks brought in Matt Flynn to be their new starting quarterback, but a rookie by the name of Russell Wilson refused to allow Flynn to take on that role, convincing his coaches that he, not Flynn was the right man for the Seahawks starting job. Now, Matt Flynn is in Oakland with a similar position. He's the presumptive starter, with Terrelle Pryor and Tyler Wilson competing to gain ground in the race for the top spot on the depth chart. "We’re going to begin with Matt Flynn," GM Reggie McKenzie said prior the draft. "Now, the quarterbacks who will be on the roster from that point on, they will all compete. Like I said, every position, it’s all about getting players that can play and competing." After drafting Tyler Wilson, McKenzie was asked if Wilson's selection changed anything. "He’s a rookie. I want him to learn the playbook first. Get out here and make sure he gets behind the center, not behind the guard. You want these guys to come in and just show the coaches and their team, number one, that they belong. Then all the other stuff will come." Now the question becomes, will the Raiders pick up just-released quarterback Tim Tebow. No - I'm just kidding. In all seriousness, it appears that Matt Flynn will once again head into training camp as the favorite to lock down the starting spot. Still, he's been beaten out for the top spot by a rookie before, and it's possible, however unlikely, that such a thing could happen in Oakland. Still, I get the feeling that the Raiders aren't planning an open quarterback competition the way it will be in some other places around the league. Matt Flynn will be the starter in Oakland week 1 unless another quarterback on roster makes it impossible to pick Flynn over that QB. [follow]
