Jim Thomas of the St Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the Rams are “believed” to have discussed the idea of potentially bringing in recently fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to run their defense next year.
Thomas adds that there’s guarantee that Ryan would be a good fit for the Rams given that he typically employs 3-4 defensive schemes instead of the 4-3 that Jeff Fisher has been running in recent years. Thomas believes there’s a chance that the Rams could consider someone who’s already on their staff like assistant head coach Dave McGinnis or secondary coach Chuck Cecil for the job, since both of them have experience as coordinators and have worked directly with Fisher in the past.
St Louis parted ways with Gregg Williams and his son, Blake, a few weeks ago, but there hasn’t been a lot of talk regarding a potential replacement since then. We’ll have to see if there’s anything to the idea of Rob Ryan joining their staff.
