For the second week in a row, the Rams offense got off to a hot start.  But, instead of one long pass, the Rams extended their hot start into two touchdown drives to jump out to a 14-0 lead and the Rams were able to hold on behind their defense and just enough offense to take the game and the Governor’s Cup.

The Rams started off the game with a 14 play drive after the opening kickoff which included a 25 yard run by Steven Jackson who got his largest amount of action of the preseason and a huge 20 yard catch and run by Brandon Gibson and Sam Bradford on a 3rd and 19.  The next Rams drive was shorter, just a 10 play drive that ended in an 11 yard TD pass to Lance Kendricks from Sam Bradford.  Both drives were highlighted by great run blocking and huge yards per carry for Steven Jackson.  The Rams came out determined to work on and dominate the running game and they did.  That allowed the Rams to do whatever they wanted on play action, including the 6 yard TD pass to Mike Sims-Walker.

Other highlights:

Steven Jackson was running hard with great support from his offensive line.  The Rams came out much more run heavy than previous preseason weeks.  It was obviously something they wanted to work on and they were very successful.

Robert Quinn got his first career sack that won’t really count and added 2 hurries.  Additionally, on special teams, Robert Quinn blocked a chip shot field goal that Chiefs head coach Todd Haley moronically decided to call from inside the 10 yard line down 4 points.

The Rams first team defense was outstanding while containing the run and covering the Chiefs wide receivers down the field.  The only touchdown was given up by the 2nd team defense after a lapse from 7th round draft pick Jabara Williams, who has otherwise had a great preseason.
