Peter King has hinted that the St. Louis Rams might try to get the Patriots SB XXXVII victory in New Orleans overturned. Based on what we know and the play-by-play report from the game, St. Louis is looking very whiny for even suggesting that the walkthrough-videotaping could have affected the outcome.

  • I agree that they sound whinny, maybe Martz just wants a ring for taking over a hall of fame coach. Although they do have a point. If the walkthrough consisted of 10-15 plays that the Rmas ran in the fist half, or quarter of the game, then that is something a lot worse than filming defensive signals ( which change weekly ). Honestly if it is proven that they used footage of plays that were going to be ran during the game then they should be stripped of thier rings. Dont give them to the Rams, but the Pats would not deserve them. That is a very big if...............I repeat ( dont want PATS fans freaking out)....if it is proven without a doubt that they used footage of the RAMS practicing their 10-15 set plays for that Superbowl....then they soud be stripped, Its the same as inside information on the stock market ( which is a felony ).
  • According to Martz, they only ran red zone plays in that walkthrough. The Rams only reached the red zone one time, and they scored a touchdown on that possession. It doesn't sound like Martz is apart of this. He seems to have accepted the outcome.
  • never in a million years
  • Just give them an asterick after every game that's proven they cheated. That's humiliating enough.
  • On that walkthrough film, if it exists, would it explain why Mike Martz burned all three second-half timeouts midway through the third quarter of a game that the Rams were losing?

You can videotape anything you want, but if you don't execute on the field, it's just a waste of film. Go back and watch that game. Now, I'm not a Patriots fan, so I really don't care, but, for anyone who understands the game and how it's played (more than just as a casual observer), you can see how the Rams made poor decisions offensively throughout the entire game that cost them.

The Pats took Marshall Faulk out of the game, even if they had to resort to holding him on pass plays (they had a defensive touchdown called back due to Faulk being held). The Rams NEVER ADJUSTED. Even after they were down two touchdowns, they never went away from Faulk as their main man.

When the Rams DID decide to open things up late in the game, DESPITE the fact that they blew all their timeouts early and for no good reason, they moved the ball rather easily. The Rams scored twice late and their offense was finally clicking.

If, like John Madden suggested at the time, the Pats played for overtime, there was no way they would have been able to stop the Rams offense if they had to. The Rams offense was rolling. It was too late, though.

It wasn't espionage, videotapes, or any of that other Jack Bauer bullshit that the feeble-minded just hear and accept as fact without thinking for themselves. Bad coaching decisions and overconfidence cost the Rams, which, ironically, were the same things that cost the Patriots the game this year.
