Running back Fred Jackson has received what he calls ''an assurance'' from the Buffalo Bills that they're open to restructuring his contract.
Though not provided a timetable, Jackson expressed faith a new deal will be worked out. On Wednesday, he said he got the assurance three weeks ago in meeting with general manager Buddy Nix.
The Bills have a policy to not discuss contract talks.
Jackson has two years left on his contract. That includes this season in which he'll make a base salary of $1.75 million, making him the team's 24th-highest paid player.
Jackson has emerged as a midseason NFL MVP candidate in helping the Bills get off to a 5-2 start. He's fourth in the league with 721 yards rushing and second with 1,074 yards from scrimmage.

The Buffalo Bills have surprised this season led by a high powered offense. Running back Fred Jackson is playing as well as any back in the league and possesses the type of game breaking ability on the edges that has given the New York Jets defense fits this year. Ryan Fitzpatrick quarterbacks a spread attack that is built around his quick release and timing.

Its strange to write about the Jets heading to lovely Western New York trying to unseat the 1st place Bills. I donât think words like that have been laid to paper in well over a decade. But nonetheless, the Jets head to Ralph Wilson stadium to try and take down the 5-2 Bills, while rooting for the cross-town Giants to hand the 5-2 Patriots their second loss in as many weeks. With...
