Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones is set to return Sunday from a high ankle sprain, but impressive rookie DeMarco Murray will remain the starter, team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday.
Jones, who opened the season as the team's lead rusher, has missed the past four games but is expected to practice this week and play at Washington.
Murray has flourished in Jones' absence, averaging 6.7 yards per carry and setting a franchise record with 253 yards in Week 7 in a 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Jerry Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM that he believes Jones will be more effective in spot duty, while Murray will benefit from more carries.
"One thing that comes to my mind is that Murray looks like the more he carries, the more effective he gets," Jones said, according to ESPNDallas.com. "You think of that theoretically about a workhorse running back, that they get better as the game goes along.
