Just Do It!

Peyton Manning will have a meeting with Colts’ owner Jim Irsay next week and all the indications are that while Irsay would welcome the 4-time MVP back he is likely not willing to give him the $28 million roster bonus owed to Manning next month.

Still, there is a chance that Manning stays with the Colts, but if he becomes an unrestricted free agent should the Seahawks make a run for him?

I would say yes. Last season showed that Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst are not the answer for Seattle at the QB position and since they do not have a very high pick in the draft so there is no way they will get Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III. (Unless we see some crazy trade pulled off)

Here are 5 reasons why the Seahawks should make a run for Peyton Manning.

1. He’s Peyton Manning

Manning is one of the best QB’s that the league has ever seen and if he comes back from his next injury and has a few more good seasons Seattle would greatly benefit from having him under center.

Even if the Seahawks draft a QB odds are likely we would not see one that can step in right away, and they would benefit from learning from one of the best ever.

2. He could be the key piece

The Seahawks have a decent young defense, a solid offensive line, some good receiving options, throw in a solid rushing attack if Marshawn Lynch is re-signed, and you see some serious building blocks.

Manning is not going to want to sign with a team that does not have a shot at the playoffs and with a legit QB Seattle is a playoff-caliber team.

3. Pete Carroll is a winner

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll has done a good job in Seattle and last season the team made a playoff run with less than stellar play from the QB position.

Carroll is committed to winning and that is the perfect coach for Manning.

4. Solid ownership

The whole Irsay experience has not been a good one for Manning in the off-season and he even fired the head coach that Peyton had a good relationship with.

Paul Allen is a great owner and he not only has deep pockets, but he does not meddle with the team and he wants to win right away.

5. Lynch would be a change of pace

For the last several seasons Manning has had to do it all in Indy, as they have lacked a legit RB for several seasons.

In Seattle he would not have to do it all with Lynch in the backfield.

I think going after Manning is also pretty much the best thing you can do to get Lynch to re-sign.

“Dangle the golden carrot Pete & John!”
