Will the Buffalo Bills clear house this off-season by firing head coach Chan Gailey, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and general manager Buddy Nix? (Credit: AP Photo) The Buffalo Bills have been nothing but disappointing this season. Some fans blame the head coach, Chan Gailey. Others, blame general manager Buddy Nix or quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills currently sit at 5-10 and are poised to miss the playoffs for another year. That makes it 13 straight seasons for the Buffalo Bills without a playoff game. It is definitely time for some people to start losing their jobs. According to Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News, citing an executive on another team and another league source, said “they were hearing of a full house-cleaning by the Bills.” That means Chan Gailey, Buddy Nix and Ryan Fitzpatrick are all gone sometime this off-season. As a Buffalo Bills fan, I do not think it is smart to give up on Buddy Nix just yet. Yes, Gailey and Fitzpatrick have to go, but Nix has been a quality general manager. During his three years in Buffalo, Nix has drafted C.J. Spiller, Marcell Dareus and Stephon Gilmore in the first rounds of each draft. All three players are potential superstars. Gilmore has been one of the most impressive rookies for the Bills since Marshawn Lynch. Nix also brought in defensive ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson last off-season. To me, a general manager needs to do a great job drafting and bring in free agents. How Nix can convince any player to sign with the Buffalo Bills is beyond me. But he has done it and will do it again if he stays with the team. If Nix can continue to hit on the Bills’ first round draft picks and bring in some decent free agents, he can turn this team around. Nix should not be fired for the mistakes of the coaching staff. However, the team definitely needs to clear house by removing Chan Gailey, Ryan Fitzpatrick and defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt.
