Enough is enough, and it’s time for a change in San Deigo. The San Diego Union Tribune reports that the San Diego Chargers will fire head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith at season’s end. According to the report, team president Dean Spanos came to the conclusion about a month ago that it was probably time for Turner to go. More recently, the paper reports, did Spanos make the decision that Smith needs to go as well. The reported decision came as news to Smith and Turner, who say they haven’t heard anything about their future yet. “I hear a lot of things every day,” Smith said, according to U-T San Diego. “Dean and I have not discussed my job status. We just discuss our players and what we can do to beat our next opponent.” For what it’s worth, Spanos also denied the report. Turner has been the head coach of the Chargers since the 2007 season. The club has seen varying levels of success under him, winning 11 games in his first season and reaching the AFC Championship, and following that up with a 13-win season two years later. However, many believe the Chargers have underachieved, especially as of late, and this season has turned into a disaster. The Chargers are now 4-8, having lost four in a row. As bleak as things look, though, the Chargers are still technically in the playoff hunt in the AFC.
