Saints head coach Sean Payton had his contract voided by the NFL two weeks ago. Since then, there has been plenty of speculation on where he might land. Places like Cleveland, Philadelphia, San Diego and Dallas have been brought up repeatedly. Since the news broke, I’ve said that I don’t think he goes anywhere but New Orleans and that they’d work out an extension that the league would approve. That seems to be the case, as GM Mickey Loomis said he expects to have Payton re-signed, but according to Mike Triplette of The Times-Picayune, the Cowboys may be a bigger threat than expected and a report from NFL.com says Payton is keeping his options open. Triplette writes: From talking with sources throughout the past two weeks, it seems like the only serious threat that could pry Coach Sean Payton away from the New Orleans Saints would be an offer from the Dallas Cowboys. There is no indication that Payton is unhappy in New Orleans or looking to leave the Saints. But the fact that Payton’s children live in Dallas would be a major factor if he winds up having a choice to make between the two teams – in addition to his high esteem for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the aura of the Cowboys’ franchise, among other factors. That would be a big blow for the New Orleans Saints, as they haven’t had the season that they’d liked to up to this point. They sit a game below .500 but the start of the season was awful. They seemed to have figured things out on defense, at least enough to stop the scoring. They are the only team in NFL History to give up at least 450 yards per game this far into the season, averaging 469.3 yards per game given up. Could Sean Payton’s relationship with Jerry Jones land him in Dallas? (AP Photo) On offense, they miss Payton as it is. They haven’t been the same explosive team they were in the past with Payton making the calls. Drew Brees has said time and time again that he misses the consistency and play calling of Payton. While no one has said that Vitt couldn’t do the job, they know Payton does it better. The report of course would have to come down to Jerry Jones firing current head coach Jason Garrett. Jones’ son, Steven, says that it’s ridiculous to say Garrett is on the hot seat. If it came down to it, and he had to pick between a Super Bowl winning coach and a coach that can’t manage a play clock, I think it’s safe to say that he’d go for the winner. The New Orleans Saints offered up head coach Sean Payton a contract extension recently but the NFL league office decided to void the extension, making Payton a free agent head coach at the conclusion of the regular season. Report: Sean Payton expected to keep his coaching options open

According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Sean Payton isn’t expected to re-sign with the Saints right away.  He’ll continue to keep his options open and right now.  The only real option aside from going back to New Orleans, would be to sign with the Cowboys since his kids live in Dallas and he has a great relationship with Jerry Jones. From talking with...

Are the Saints making a playoff run? Week 11 preview.

The Saints seem to have things together, is it too late to make a playoff push? After a rough Week 10, I'm sitting at 92-54-1.  Who wants to keep track of a tie. Let's see if I can turn this around this week. Arizona at Atlanta - The Cards need to get some production from the QB position if they want any chance to make playoff this season. The Falcons...

Darren Sproles is ready to go

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles is healthy enough to play this week if the Saints are ready to use him. Saints Injury Report: Darren Sproles, Courtney Roby, Corey White

New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles was back at practice yesterday after being sidelined for the past several weeks due to a hand injury. The speedy back was full-go and it looks like he’ll be ready to play this weekend when the Saints take on the Oakland Raiders. Sproles underwent surgery on his broken left hand in the beginning of Nov. While the recovery time was...

Saints Nation: The Only Thing Holding Chris Ivory Back is Ball Security

Chris Ivory has played so well the last two weeks there's almost no way the Saints can go back to shelving him on the inactive list again. If nothing else, he's secured his spot in the rotation as a situational runner for the Saints. But why did it take so long for the Saints to plug him in there, especially when Mark Ingram had performed so poorly, and why are the Saints...

Week 11 Fantasy Football rankings

So it seems that as soon as I give my vote of confidence to a certain player, they have a knack for underperforming. Last week’s article featured a picture of Buccaneers running back Doug Martin.  He followed up his monster week 9 with a pedestrian week 10, rushing for just 68 yards.  Martin did have 51 receiving yards, but failed to score for the first time since week 6. Two...

Dennis Allen is a familiar foe for the Saints

Dennis Allen is the 18th head coach for the Oakland Raiders, but in his first year, his 3-6 team is struggling.  Before he landed in Oakland, and prior to Allen being with the Denver Broncos in 2011, he learned his trade in New Orleans as a defensive backs coach. Allen sat down with the Jerry McDonald of the San Jose Mercury News to talk about his time in New Orleans. "...

Saints' Sproles considered questionable for Sunday

The New Orleans Saints listed running Darren Sproles as questionable for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders. Sproles has missed the past two weeks after undergoing surgery on a hand that was injured in a loss to Denver in week eight. Interim coach Joe Vitt said Friday that Sproles experienced some swelling in the hand. If Sproles plays Sunday, Saints offensive coordinator...

Saints win relegation battle at QPR

Nigel Adkins' Southampton won 3-1 at winless QPR in a match dubbed 'El Sackico'. The futures of both managers were subject to intense speculation in the build-up to a Loftus Road encounter contested by the sides bottom and second-bottom of the standings. QPR and Southampton had conceded 49 league goals between them prior to the game and the hosts' defence was breached...

Saints Nation: 5 Things to Look For in Saints @ Raiders

Gameday is here and with it comes a chance for the Saints to claw their way back to .500 for the first time since week 2! For them to get to 5-5 after an 0-4 start would be somewhat miraculous, but also necessary to have any shot at the postseason. The opponent is an extremely beatable one, but the "easier" games, which don't truly exist in the NFL, are the ones the...

Julio Jones A Game Time Decision

We’re talking bout practice Juan… Julio Jones left the game against the Saints last week, only to return and grab a nice little 52 yard bomb.  Now, he has missed practice all week and will be a gametime decision according to Mike Smith. Smith: “These guys are so close and moving in the right direction that we’ll make a determination as late as we possibly can,” Smith...

New Orleans Saints at Oakland Raiders: Week 11 NFL Pick

New Orleans Saints (4-5) at Oakland Raiders (3-6) The Saints are overrated. Yes, they knocked off Atlanta, but Dallas, Carolina, Washington, and Oakland almost did so. Their defense is still a joke. Because of their defense, they rank 28th in yards per play differential and 25th in rate of sustaining drives differential. Their defense ranks dead last in both of those metrics. The...
