Found August 27, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
The New York Jets have had concerns about the right tackle spot throughout the preseason, and on Monday they tried to address that issue by acquiring Jason Smith from the St. Louis Rams, multiple media outlets reported Monday. In exchange, the Jets gave the Rams offensive tackle Wayne Hunter, who had been part of the problem for the Jets on the offensive line. In fact, both teams are banking on getting improved play from players who have been disappointments. Smith was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, but he has not lived up to expectations and recently lost his starting job on the right side to Barry Richardson. But the Jets are willing to try their luck with Smith. Earlier this summer the Jets acquired another first-round pick, tackle Jeff Otah, hoping to improve their offensive line, but Otah failed the physical. Hunter was not the answer on the right side for the Jets, losing his starting job to Austin Howard. Smith took a pay cut during the spring a...

The Jets and Rams have completed their swap of struggling right tackles, with New York acquiring Jason Smith from St. Louis for Wayne Hunter. Both Smith, the No. 2 overall pick by the Rams in the 2009 draft, and Hunter had lost their starting jobs and the trade gives both a chance to rejuvenate their careers elsewhere. Smith was due $4 million this season, but a person familiar...

Jets acquire RT Smith from Rams for RT Hunter

The New York Jets have acquired Jason Smith from the St. Louis Rams for Wayne Hunter in a swap of disappointing right tackles. Kenny Zuckerman, Hunter's agent, confirmed the deal Monday night, telling The Associated Press it was pending physicals on Tuesday. Smith was the No. 2 overall pick by the Rams (No. 28 in the AP Pro32) in the 2009 draft, but failed to live up to lofty...

St. Louis Rams trade OT Jason Smith to the New York Jets for OT Wayne Hunter

The Jets and Rams are essentially swapping terrible right tackles in this deal. Smith is the better of the two, but the former 2nd overall pick has only played in 28 games in 3 seasons and only played in more than 7 games once, starting 15 games in 2010. In 2010, he was awful, grading out as below average as a run blocker and pass protector, allowing 5 sacks, 6 quarterback hits,...

From having a future Hall of Famer in Orlando Pace in his prime...

Wayne Hunter Traded, Jets Acquire Jason Smith

After a tumultuous run as the Jets habitually criticized and scrutinized starting Right Tackle, Wayne Hunter has seen his last days in New York. The Jets have agreed to send the struggling Tackle to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for fellow Tackle, Jason Smith. Smith, the 2nd overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, was heavily touted coming out of Baylor, but has failed to live...

St. Louis Rams: Most Loved and Hated Players

Every NFL team has a 52 man roster. On every roster there tends to be a least loved and most loved player. The terminology tends to be most hated but when I asked fans in the fan sites who is the most hated most of them said that they do not hate any fans on the roster. It's things like that which make me so proud to be a Rams fan! It was a little bit hard to come up with a consensus...

Jets desperately try to improve offensive Line: Too little too late?

The New York Jets’ offensive line has obviously been a huge problem throughout this preseason. Unfortunately, it was also a huge problem all of last season. Former Jets RT Wayne Hunter was statistically the worst right tackle in the league last season. He allowed his quarterback to be pressured and hit more than any other [...]

Jets’ Wayne Hunter Traded to the Rams for Jason Smith

Manish Mehta broke before 8:30pm tonight that the Jets might be trading Wayne Hunter to the Rams.  In a flurry of seconds and tweets, the deal was done and the Jets end up with Rams’ draft bust Jason Smith.  Is this Aaron Maybin take 2? Regardless if Jason Smith is proven or not, Wayne Hunter needed to be off the Jets team.  He’s a good guy but he mentally checked out.  Now...

Turn On The Jets Stock Watch – Pre-Season Week 3 Edition

I hope enough Jets fans out there managed to avoid jumping off the ledge after they again failed to score a touchdown on Sunday night, and are still around to read this column. It’s easy to be down on the offense after their preseason performances, but I saw enough silver linings this week that lead me to believe hings are going to come together soon. By soon, I mean I pray it...

Jets circus continues

Another day, another ridiculous story out of Jets camp. The media spin that surrounds the Jets is truly something to behold with Tebow in town, and a few weeks ago the scorn turned towards the right tackle of all people. Wayne Hunter was struggling in camp, that was no question, but it suddenly became the most right tackle spot in the league. Only in New York. ...
