Menish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets actually made an attempt on Friday to trade up for USC WR Marqise Lee who happened to fall out of round one. Mehta was convinced that the Jets were going to move up for their players, but that ultimately never happened. Lee wound up being selected by the Jaguars with No. 39 overall pick and now joins an offense that includes UCF QB Blake Bortles as well as Penn State WR Allen Robinson. New York would select Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro in the second round and later address the receiver position in round four with Oklahoma WR Jalen Saunders and UCLA WR Shaquelle Evans. During free agency, the Jets brought in former Broncos WR Eric Decker and Jacoby Ford. As things stand right now, the Jets receiving corps consists of: Eric Decker Stephen Hill Jeremy Kerley David Nelson Jalen Saunders Shaq Evans Jacoby Ford Clyde Gates Greg Salas Quincy Enunwa While it’s not the best unit in the league, it’s clearly an upgrade from what they had to work with last year. Second-year starter Geno Smith will need all the help he can get if he’s to take the next step in his NFL development.
