Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher sent a text message to a secret girlfriend less than two months ago saying he "would shoot" longtime girlfriend Kasandra Perkins "if she didn't leave him alone," according to police reports obtained by the Kansas City Star. The texts expressed turmoil and frustration, and Belcher's secret girlfriend thought he was joking at the time, the newspaper reported Tuesday. But on Dec. 1, Belcher shot and killed Perkins after an argument and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself with a different handgun in the parking lot in front of his coaches and Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli. The police case file obtained by the Star reveal much about Belcher's relationship with Perkins. Among the revelations is that he missed a team meeting a few weeks before the murder-suicide. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel told police that Belcher blamed his absence on Perkins, saying she stayed out all night and left him to care for their 3-month-old daughter at home. Belcher had previously complained to his secret girlfriend that Perkins "knew exactly how to press his buttons and make him angry." Belcher said Perkins had threatened "to take all his money and his child" if they split up, the reports indicate. Police found 10 apparent gunshot wounds on the front of Perkins' body and five wounds on her backside. Four bullets were in her body. One bullet hole was in the bathroom floor, under Perkins' body, suggesting she might have been shot while on the floor. After Belcher shot Perkins, he headed to Arrowhead Stadium, where he saw Pioli in the parking lot. The police reports said Belcher told Pioli, "I'm sorry, Scott. I've done a bad thing to my girlfriend already," and asked to speak with Crennel and linebackers coach Gary Gibbs. As Belcher held a gun to his head, Crennel tried to talk him out of suicide. Belcher walked away from the coaches and Pioli as poice arrived at the scene, and Crennel shouted, according to the report, "You're taking the easy way out!" Belcher then knelt behind a minivan, made the sign of the cross and fired his final shot into his his head.
