According to ProFootballTalk.com, a high-level source with one team told the site that the NFL is preparing for free agency starting very soon, with the soonest at 12:00 AM ET tonight.
The source told ProFootballTalk.com that a ruling from Judge David Doty in Minnesota could force the league to keep up with the normal operations, including free agent signings and trades. As Mike Florio writes, the possibility is just that, a possibility, but teams are still preparing in case of that scenario taking place.
Earlier today the NFLPA applied for decertification before the 5:00 PM ET deadline to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. Many around the league expect the setting of the situation to become the courtroom with the likelihood that the union (or previously known as a union) will file a lawsuit under antitrust law.
So be prepared fans, just in case. Players like CB Nnamdi Asomugha and DE Marcus Spears could become free to sign with any team in the league in a matter of hours.
