According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New Orleans Saints and head coach Sean Payton have held some contract discussions.  Both sides still aren’t close to a resolution, but they believe it will get done. Just this past week ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that there’s still a chance the Cowboys can swoop in and steal Payton.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Will the Saints really lose Sean Payton for good? A look at Head Coaches in trouble this offseason.

The Saints were devastated by the bounty situation this season.  Now they face the realization that Sean Payton may move on for good. As we get closer to the end of the season it's time to start looking ahead to the coaching changes for next year. Here's a quick look at the teams I think will, or should, be looking for a coaching change when the season ends....

Saints looking to win out, playoffs or not

Saints guard Jahri Evans acknowledges a measure of regret that it took so long - probably too long - for New Orleans to resemble the playoff contender it had been the previous three seasons. Evans says the Saints' 41-0 victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday offered a glimpse of how New Orleans should have played earlier this season. Still, Evans and his teammates say winning out...

Saints place Jenkins, Brown on injured reserve

The New Orleans Saints have placed safety Malcolm Jenkins and offensive lineman Charles Brown on injured reserve, ending their seasons. The team announced Saturday that it has signed safety Jerico Nelson and offensive lineman Ricky Henry from its practice squad to take their places on the active roster. Jenkins has started all of the Saints' 13 games this season, recording...

Saints place S Jenkins, OT Brown on IR

The New Orleans Saints placed right tackle Charles Brown and free safety Malcolm Jenkins on season-ending injured reserve. Guard Ricky Henry and safety Jerico Nelson were signed off the Saints' practice squad. Jenkins started all 13 games for the Saints this season, but left last Sunday's loss to the New York Giants with a knee injury that ultimately ended his season...

Saints Place Malcolm Jenkins, Charles Brown on IR

The New Orleans Saints have placed safety Malcolm Jenkins and offensive lineman Charles Brown on season-ending injured reserve, reports Katherine Terrell of The Times-Picayune. Safety Malcolm Jenkins’ season is over as the New Orleans Saints placed him on injured reserve Saturday after sustaining a hamstring injury during last week's loss against the Giants. The Saints...

Saints Nation: Defensive and Special Teams Player Grades vs. Bucs

What a fantastic performance by the Saints defense, led by improbable heroes in backup defensive backs that haven't really gotten much of a chance all season. To hold Doug Martin to 16 yards on 9 carries was worthy of the Baltimore Ravens' defense in their prime. This defense stuffed the run, clogged passing lanes, got pressure with four, and created turnovers. Steve Spagnuolo...

Report: Sean Payton may test the coaching free agent market

We mentioned earlier that the New Orleans Saints and head coach Sean Payton have had some contract discussions, but they’re not even close to getting anything done. According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Payton plans on keeping his options open and possibly testing the head coaching free agent market if something doesn’t get done with the Saints soon.   Need NFL Tickets? ...

Saints Nation: Saints Annihilate Bucs 41-0

This may have just been the biggest beatdown short of the 62-3 win over the Colts last season that I have ever seen the Saints put down on a team in my lifetime. While it does nothing to satisfy my postseason aspirations when the season began, and it also does nothing to help the Saints' draft position, I think it all served to make us feel better in realizing the Saints are...

Saints Nation: Offensive Player Grades vs. Bucs

The Saints could have put together one scoring drive and it would have been enough to give them the win, that's how good their defense played. Of course, it also helped that the offense run the ball well, had explosive plays in the passing game, and stayed efficient without turning the ball over one time. That's usually a recipe for good grades all around as you'...

Buccaners at Saints game preview

Game time: Sunday at 1 p.m. ET TV: FOX After blowing another late lead, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' playoff hopes are in serious jeopardy. To make the postseason, the Buccaneers will likely need a string of wins - and will certainly need some help - starting with Sunday's road game against the struggling New Orleans Saints. After its fourth consecutive win Nov. 18, it appeared...

Bucs game day: Keys to the game at New Orleans

In their last meeting, we saw Drew Brees and the Saints move the ball up and down the field effortlessly against the Buccaneers secondary in the first half of the game. The Bucs would eventually make adjustments but come one play away from at least tying the game. So for the Bucs to be successful, they need to do a lot of what they did in the second half of that game and nothing...

Buccaneers crushed on road by Saints

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams was wide open as he broke for the end zone, then watched a pass from Josh Freeman sail far beyond his reach. On the next play, Freeman hit New Orleans defensive back Rafael Bush in the numbers for an easy interception. It was that type of day for Freeman and the Bucs, whose fading playoff hopes ended Sunday in by far their most...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints: Week 15 NFL Pick

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) at New Orleans Saints (5-8) The Buccaneers lost last week as big home favorites against the Eagles, essentially eliminating themselves from playoff contention, but they are still better than their record. They haven’t lost a single game by more than 8 points, but 4 of their 6 wins have come by double digits. As a result, they are 11th in net points per...
