According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Sean Payton isn’t expected to re-sign with the Saints right away.  He’ll continue to keep his options open and right now.  The only real option aside from going back to New Orleans, would be to sign with the Cowboys since his kids live in Dallas and he has a great relationship with Jerry Jones. From talking with sources throughout the past two weeks, it seems like the only serious threat that could pry Coach Sean Payton away from the New Orleans Saints would be an offer from the Dallas Cowboys. There is no indication that Payton is unhappy in New Orleans or looking to leave the Saints. But the fact that Payton’s children live in Dallas would be a major factor if he winds up having a choice to make between the two teams – in addition to his high esteem for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the aura of the Cowboys’ franchise, among other factors. That’s why Payton probably won’t make an immediate decision on whether or not to sign a new contract with the Saints, since he’ll want to keep his options open. And that’s why the Saints probably won’t push too forcefully for Payton to either sign a new deal or honor his previous agreement that was signed but rejected by the NFL. If Payton wanted to make a move for family reasons, the Saints likely wouldn’t want to force him to stay against his will. Right now I believe the odds are that Payton re-signs with the Saints since the only way the Cowboys are going to fire Jason Garrett is if hey have an opic collapse this season.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";
