FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Minutes before the Atlanta Falcons opened training camp on Thursday, the team agreed to a lucrative contract extension with Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan. Multiple sources reported the five-year extension includes guaranteed money of 59 million over the first three years. FOX Sports information guru Jay Glazer tweeted that he ran into Ryan minutes before the QB was set to take the field. "Just bumped into Matt Ryan smiling ear to ear and said 'Im pumped!' about new 6-year deal. He was hoping it would get done b4 practice," Glazer wrote. Even though Ryan's deal apparently won't kick in until next season, the restructured salary for this year likely creates immediate cap room for Atlanta, which recently inked all its draftees to rookie contracts. With Ryan's deal done, it remains to be seen whether the previously cap-strapped Falcons have enough room to sign a veteran defender, such as tackle Richard Seymour. FOXSportsSouth.com recently reported the Falcons have held contract talks with Seymour, a three-time All-Pro with the Patriots (2003-05).
