Return of the R&B Receiver

Darnerien McCants is back in the NFL, and not too far from where he began his NFL journey. Drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 2001 NFL Draft, the Delaware State University product proved himself to be a valuable red zone receiver, leading the team in touchdown receptions in 2003. But between disputes with coaches, and a flirtation with being an R&B singer, he bounced from Washington, to the Philadelphia Eagles, to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, was drafted All-American Football League's Tennessee franchise, and briefly signed with with the New Orleans Voodoo of the Arena Football League. And now he's with the Ravens. McCants and Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh go back to their time together in Philadelphia, and Harbaugh is confident in McCants' ability to make the team. But there's something puzzling about McCants' track record in football; despite his physical talents, no one wants him around. "The odds are against me and it'll be a struggle, but my whole life in football has been like that," McCants said. "In college, I played four years and had three different head coaches, and all of them tried to get rid of me. In Washington, I played there for four years and had three different head coaches, and all of them tried to get rid of me. It's not a bad thing to act like a R&B male diva when you sing for a living. But being a male diva in the NFL and your name is NOT Brett Favre? Not a good look.
