My Sports Rumors:
Fantasy football players are going to be pretty upset as it’s looking more and more like Randall Cobb won’t be returning punts and kicks for the Green Bay Packers. While no player on the roster has proven to be better yet injuries may force Mike McCarthy’s hands. The Packers receiving corps has suffered injuries but it’s not just injuries to others, Cobb has been shut down thanks to his own injury.
Following practice on Wednesday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the team plans to shut down Randall Cobb for the next two days with the bicep injury he’s been playing through, adding that the 22-year-old receiver would be “stressed” to play in Saturday’s preseason game in St. Louis.
As recently as July 31, McCarthy said he’d use Cobb as his returner if the Packers “were going to play a game tomorrow,” but that sentiment could change with injuries mounting in the receiving corps and Jordy Nelson already out for the rest of training camp after undergoing a knee procedure. Charles Woodson, a former teammate of Aaron Rodgers, weighed in on the criticism the quarterback has faced regarding his leadership.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says his arms and legs feel fresh, which he attributes to coming into camp in the best shape of his career and to a reduced workload. Rodgers is on a snap count in training camp for the first time in his nine-year career. “It’s been a lot lighter, and I’ve appreciated it,”
According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, rookie running back Johnathan Franklin has yet to show the Packers the “wow factor” during practice.
Franklin hasn’t shown any “wow” factor yet. He has been adequate, not special, as a pass blocker. He’s tough and quick, but has struggled making headway between the tackles partially due to size.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says things were much different when he was in college and the way it is now makes him feel bad for Johnny Manziel.
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Packers cornerback Casey Heyward is still out with a hamstring injury, After a very impressive rookie season in 2012, Heyward could end up being the Packers top cornerback this season. Heyward recorded 53 tackles and 6 interceptions as a rookie. Need NFL Tickets? Loading... ZergNet The post Casey Heyward still...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Randall Cobb didn't need to confirm that he was hurting. It was evident on the field throughout the Green Bay Packers' training camp practice Tuesday. Clutching his right arm during and after every play, the third-year wide receiver was in significant pain. Yet, Cobb stayed in for every series, including the no-huddle finale in which he fell awkwardly to...

Movin' On Up:
QB Vince Young
This spot could have gone to several players in a practice that was filled with standout performances. Wide receiver James Jones was great in the no-huddle period, defensive lineman Mike Daniels dominated the one-on-one pass rush drills, running back Eddie Lacy...
Here are five things to watch for in the Green Bay Packers' second preseason game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday against the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome:
1. Graham Harrell vs. Vince Young for the No. 2 quarterback job
In Green Bay's first preseason game, Young wasn't asked to do much. Being with the Packers for only three practices didn't allow Young...

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Peter King of SI.com that every offseason he focus’ on a couple of things he wants to improve.
This past offseason Rodgers worked on his deep throws.
“Tom Brady told me after the ’07 season — we got to play a little golf, and I picked his brain — that you should work on at least one or two things every off-season,” Rodgers...
When Graham Harrell signed with the Packers in 2010, he had the pedigree to prove he belonged in the NFL.
A two time 5,000 yard passer during his time at Texas Tech, he ended his college career as the all time leader in passing touchdowns with 143. His 15, 793 passing yards ranked second all time. And following a Senior year which saw him throw for 5,111 yards and 45 touchdowns...
Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy was back at practice on Thursday after missing some time with a hamstring injury.
Green Bay running backs coach Alex Van Pelt has been impressed with Lacy’s pass blocking ability.
“(Eddie Lacy) stands out (in) pass protection …shows better against those guys,” said Van Pelt, via Paul Imig of FOX Sports Wisconsin.

Ryan Pickett on Saturday will return to St. Louis, where he was a first-round pick in 2011. Today, he's the oldest player on the Packers' roster but also one of the steadiest performers on the team. The big guy has stayed on top of his game by staying on top of his weight.

Tramon Williams is expected to start at a corner this season. He had been a top corner in the league since gaining a starting position in 2009 but his production slipped in 2012. He entered this off-season looking to regain his 2010 form when he took the league by storm and made the Pro-Bowl.
Unfortunately, the seven-year veteran suffered a setback in late July when he injured his...
