My Sports Rumors:
There was some talk coming out of West Virginia this past weekend that New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith wasn’t the leader people thought he was. Whether it’s true or not is one thing but there’s one person standing by his side, his head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan didn’t sound too happy that his former teammates would say stuff like this now and took his own shot at the university.
First here’s what was said about Geno:
“Last year we didn’t have, you know, a lot of leadership,” junior running back Dustin Garrison told TribLIVE.com.
“I feel like last year, we fell apart,” junior running back Andrew Buie added, in the report.. “At certain moments where we needed to be a team, we weren’t a team.” (New York Daily News)
Here’s Ryan’s response:
Asked if it came him any pause about Smith’s ability to face adversity, Ryan said, “No, but it tells me I’m glad my kid never went there. Tell you that much. I don’t get that.”
“Geno was a tremendous player for West Virginia,” Rya
