San Diego Chargers coaches have decided to sit starting QB Philip Rivers and star TE Antonio Gates. This decision is most likely in light of the  two losses of key offensive weapons in two weeks of pre-season play. However, the decision is also two fold. They most likely chose to sit those two particular players not only because they are so important to the offense, but because their backups need to see some more time. QB Charlie Whitehurst missed almost an entire training camp, and one week of the pre-season. He needs some more reps and perhaps the coaches would like to see him play the Vikings number one squad to see how he fairs. Randy McMichael, Dante Rosario, and Ladarius Green all would like to see more reps also, with such a deep TE group, it’s hard to feed all these talented TE’s some reps. When you protect someone as important as Antonio Gates while giving the other guys some reps, it’s hard to say the decision is a bad one. Check out other great articles at Sports Media ...
