Robert Griffin III was voted as a team captain of the Washington Redskins in a meeting on Wednesday. It may be the first time that Mike Shanahan has had a rookie team captain.
Considering how Griffin has taken the role of the Redskins offensive leader since arriving in Washington, the title is just a formality.
“You just know that everybody’s looking at me to be the guy, to make everything work,” Griffin said. “To me, that’s not pressure. But I just echo it to everyone else that it’s not just me. People will say it’s me and I’ll get all the blame and all the fame, but it’s the guys around me that make me great.”
Griffin joins tackle Trent Williams as an offensive captain. Defensive captain London Fletcher was joined by Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen. Lorenzo Alexander is the Redskins special teams captain.
Robert Griffin III has 1,993 passing yards and 529 rushing yards this season. With 7 passing yards against the Eagles on Sunday he’ll become just the third quarterback in NFL history to reach 2,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards in his rookie season. Cam Newton (2011) and Vince Young (2006) previously have accomplished the feat.
Griffin still believes the Redskins (5-6) have a shot to make the playoffs. On Monday night they will play against the NFC East leading New York Giants. (7-4)

ANOTHER DC BAILOUT
RGIII had one of the top plays of the season on Monday night when his Redskins took on the New York Giants, and it was on a fumble. Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III rushed down the left side of the field and fumbled the ball into the air, where, fortunately, wide receiver Josh Morgan somehow was in the right place at the right time, scooped it up and took it...
It would not be a stretch to call last nights win the biggest in years for the Washington Redskins. Yes, their current record is only 6-6, but it put them in a tie with the Cowboys and only 1 game behind the defending champion Giants. Since the ‘Skins happen to own basically every single tie-breaker [...]
RG3 has been a Godsend to the Washington Redskins and a nightmare for the rest of the league. The guy can beat you throwing the football, running with the football…and apparently kicking the football.
Robert Griffin III threw for one touchdown and had a fumble turn into another score, and the Washington Redskins pulled within one game of the NFC East lead with a 17-16 win over the New York Giants on Monday night.
The Redskins improved to 6-6 with their third straight victory, tied with the Dallas Cowboys and on the heels of the Giants, who have lost three of four to fall to 7...
Robert Griffin III went down, the ball popped out, and the Washington Redskins scored a touchdown.
Look out, New York Giants and the rest of the NFC East. If the rookie quarterback keeps getting those kinds of breaks, it'll be hard to keep him out of the title hunt for years to come.
As it is, RG3 has the Redskins within a game of first place, leading a fourth-quarter rally...
The "RG3" chant still echoed throughout FedEx Field several minutes after the Washington Redskins' 17-16 victory over the New York Giants late Monday night.
Robert Griffin III did have some phenomenal runs as he set the NFL record for rushing yards in a season by a rookie quarterback. He also had some timely completions, including when he found receiver Pierre Garcon...
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has yet to face a team's defense for the second time this season. On Monday, Griffin will finally see a team for the second time, but he isn't concerned the New York Giants will be better prepared for him. “Yeah, it’s always different the second time,” Griffin said via The Washington Post. “They’ve kind of...
“We won the game. That’s all that matters” said Robert Griffin III after the Redskins pulled off an upset of the NFC East leading Giants.
With Monday nights win the Washington Redskins remain in contention for a NFC Wild Card spot and still have a chance to win the NFC East at 6-6. The loss drops the Giants to 7-5.
The Giants were a three point favorite entering the game. The...
There was the fumble by Robert Griffin III that turned into a Washington Redskins touchdown. There was the fumble by teammate Alfred Morris that led to a melee of leg-pulling followed by a kick to the midsection and something dangerously close to a stomp.
The quartet of flawed teams that make up the NFC East sure do make things interesting.
The division title that seemingly belonged...
After another great performance that included a big win over the Bears on the road, Seattle Seahwks cornerback Richard Sherman believes rookie quarterback Russell Wilson is a little better than both Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck. “They’re going to hype who they’re going to hype, and you’re in the Seattle market, and it doesn’t matter what you do,” Sherman said...
Because Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III were the No. 1 and 2 overall picks in the draft, it’s understandable that they’re generating the most hype. But don’t forget the rookie quarterback that everyone doubted that’s playing out in the Pacific Northwest, who’s putting up just as many wins and impressive stats.
Russell Wilson may not have the Olympic-level speed that...
